How do you change your avator from the default one?

This might sound silly, but I'm not the most technically minded of individuals. How can I change my avator from the green and white smiley default one? Any help would be much appreciated.

Go to Edit your preferences and edit from there, good luck, I think it is good fun making your avatar.
