Buying new furniture

If you are a resident in the UK my advice would be that if you are looking to buy new furniture avoid Land Of Leather - especially the Rotherham Store. We went there on March 9th to look for new living room furniture. The ads in the paper say "Immediate Delivery," We chose what we wanted and were told by the salesman that it would be delivered within 6 weeks since the stuff they sell is manufactured out of the country. Six weeks arrived and left with no sign of our furniture so we called the Rotherham store and were given a complete run-a-round by both the salesman and the manager. When we looked closely at the papers it said delivery date Mid to the end of April. Well here it was April 26th but they didn't care. When we talked to the head office of this company we got nothing there either. Another call to the Rotherham store told us we could expect delivery no later than May 8th. Well here it is and still no furniture. A call to the store today got the usual flippant attitude from the store Manager and we were told that it would be another 10 days to 2 weeks before it is delivered. I called the Nottingham store - and I must say this - their manager was a far cry from the rude arrogant man at Rotherham. We even got the name of the district manager and were told he would not talk to us because he does not interfere with the stores - well on that my question is this - why have him if he does nothing. We asked if we could cancel our order and were told that we would lose our deposit of £160 if we did - for breaking our contract with them. Well they broke their contract with us when the suite was not delivered in the time that they told us it would be when they were making the sale. I guess what I am trying to say is this - if you want good customer relations - good service then you should avoid Land Of Leather like the plague. In my opinion they are an absolute rip off.

After reading your posts on here about the UK, I am glad that I live in the United States. I may complain about the high cost of gas and everything else but it sounds to me like we have it far better than you do over there. I hope you get it straightened out and quickly.

We finally got it straighened out. We went on what you might call a rampage at Land of Leather to get our deposit back - we were going to pay the amount in full when we got the furniture but they told us after lying to us so many times before - that we would have to pay the balance before they would deliver our furniture. We threatened to report them to the Trading Standards Agency - only then did they refund out deposit - we cancelled our order with them and bought the furniture elsewhere. Incidentally we bought it on Friday afternoon and it was delivered on Tuesday sfternoon. I would like to repeat - if anyone is thinking of buying new furniture - avoid Land of Leather.
