Man: "Can't live with her and can't live without her!" (^^,lol)

May 8, 2007 12:44pm CST
Here is a story I want to share about the creation of man and woman. "When He had finished creating man, the Creator realized that he had used up all the concrete elements. There was nothing solid, nothing compact on hand, left over to create the woman. After thinking for a long time, the Creator took...the roundness of the moon, the flexibility of a clinging vine and the trembling of the grass, the slenderness of a reed, the blossoming of flowers, the lightness of leaves and the serenity of the rays of sunshine, the tears of clouds and the instability of the wind, the fearfulness of a rabbit and the vanity of a peacock, the softness of a bird's breast and the hardness of a diamond, the sweetness of honey and the cruelty of a tiger, the urning of fire and the coldness of snow, the talkativeness of a magpie and the singing of a nightingale, and the faithfulness of a mother lion. Mixing all these non-solid elements together, the Creator created the woman and gave her to the man. After one week, the man came back and said, "Lord, the creature that you have given to me makes my life unhappy. S"he talks without ceasing and torments me intolerably, so that I have no rest. She insists that I pay attention to her all the time and so my hours are wasted. she cries about every little thing and leads an idle life. I have come to give her back to you, because I can't live with her." The Creator said, "All right." And He took her back. After a week passed, the man came back to the Creator and said, "Lord, my life is empty since I gave that creature back to you. I always think of her - how she danced and sang, how she looked at me out of the corner of her eye, how she chatted with me and then snuggled close to me. She was so beautiful to look at and so soft to touch. I liked so much to hear her laugh. Please give her back to me." The Creator said, "All right." and he gave her back. But three day later, the man came back again and said, "Lord, I don't know - I just can't explain it, but after all my experiences with this creature, I've come to the conclusion that she causes me more trouble than pleasure. I pray thee, take her back again! I can't live with her!" The Creator replied. "You can't live without her either!" and He turned his back to the man and continued His work. The man said in desperation: "What shall I do? I can't live with her and I can't live without her!" I have always loved this story, especially the description of the elements used for making a woman. And I must admit the last paragraphs, always make me smile and wonder. Is that true for men, for women? What do you think? If yes or no is your answer, please say why too? I would love to hear your views and thoughts about this story. (^^,)

Aphroditei, its a wonderful piece of thought.Very lovely and also rich in literary content. The para you are talking about ,is what made me admire too owing to the variety of simile and the imagination. The roundness,flexibility,slenderness,trembling,blossoming,serenity,faithfulness,sweetness,cruelty,burning,coldness..my mind is reeling.Lol.Such verbosity!! And yet mingled with such delicate warmth. Yes.I think its quite true.Men and women just can't live together nor can stay apart.Lol.Maybe that's the reason why God created the feeling of Love, the ultimate surrender of oneself to the other.Till this love lasts,a man and woman live happily together. The moment love leaves,so does the togetherness.

Yes, Melody, I agree with you, so much verbosity. And I love that para, because it encompasses almost all the facets of a woman and describe them so well. And maybe those are the reason why man can't live with / without a woman. The diversity of traits and characters, which leaves an enigma and an endless quest to understand women. And to add, the mystery of creation and its gifts, like Love; who is an answer to all this queries which leads to a bond of togetherness. Seems like I have just repeated your response ha.~~lol Thanks for your response dear. Have a great day! (^^,)

It is so classic that they wrote a thousand books on this topic, maybe if we publish this on Mars and Venus we might between the two get the right answer. My husband always say if it has wheels and t*ts it is bound to give you trouble! Very crud but in his eyes very true, and between us two, sometimes I don't like "me" too much let alone my poor hubby!

I think it's true for both men and women. Neither one seems to be able to live and function without the other. Not to mention the fact that living without each other, to me, would make life very boring indeed.

Nice stroy. I believe that some part of this is true indeed. Specially the part when the man admits that he can't live with the creator called woman (just kidding). I belive it is not about man and woman beng for each other or man wanting to be with a woman but the love that they have for each other. I know my father can't live without my mother, and I too love it this way, but that is because he loves her.

Hello Aphroditei, This is a lovely story. Although, I'm not sure what the author means by "... the trembling of the grass." If anyone else gets that line, I'd love to hear your take. I like how it show man's fickleness, an attribute that is generally associated with women. And, I like how it shows the duality of woman's strengths and weaknesses. I also really like that although it says that man says he cannot live without woman, that in fact either can live without the other ... we just choose not do. As much as I love my husband, it pales in comparision to how much I like him. So, it's definitely our choice to build our lives with and around the other. Thanks for sharing this Aphroditei.

Hi Ladyluna! I'm glad you like it. I was thinking maybe for the "trembling of the grass", the author wanted to describe the frail figure or image of a woman. So frail and so fragile, so innocent, almost trembling. Something like that maybe. ~~lol And very well said it's also a matter of choice to build our lives together. Thanks for your response Ladyluna. Have a lovely day! (^^,)

hi goddess of love.i don't think there can be any more beautiful words that can describe a woman in all her beauty and childlikeness.i truly believe in this thing because women lacks man's practicality and man lacks woman's soft touch and cuddling ways.both are incomplete without each other.this has been a personal experience,as i know my husband since 11 years although got married only an year ago.love is still going strong because each loves and respects what other lacks.it is really touchy and romantic when one sees a couple making up after a little triffle.i feel proud to be a woman as we have been gifted all the nicest things of nature which makes us unique.

THIS HAS MADE ME CRY AS I HAVE STARTED PINING AGAIN FOR MY HUSBAND. I FEEL HALF WITHOUT HIM. I'ts a beautiful story and it is so very true, the men complain if we don't give them attention and use that as an excuse to be unfaithful and when we do give them attention they say we are too needy and clingy lol. Just this morning I was joking and laughing about this with my Husband as we chatted on the phone, so it was quite funny you posting this today. Thank you my friend, by the way I loved your profile man!

Thank you Sis, sorry if it made you cry ha. *hugz* And I know, Your Love will fill the distance and conquer all the challenges. And soon, you'll be together again. I'll pray, for the distance to disapear and for you to live a long long long time happily inlove with your soulmate. For the souls that are meant to be together, always find a way to be reunited. Thank you too Sis for your response. Have a great day! Take care! (^^,) And for my profile, nah.., I'm thankful to Annie for my profile, because without her discussions and guidelines, I won't have it. If only God had created women first and handed men over to them, then this imbroglio could have been avoided, lol. But then men would have missed the tenderness of women as God might have chosen the concrete elements to create women.I can't even imagine a woman with the stiffness of the rock and the coarseness of grind. The flippancy of the wind and coldness of snow might plague the heart of a man ,but it's these very qualities that challenge the man to demystify the enigma we call women. A woman to a man is like fire to a candle. The fire burns out the candle ,but without the fire ,the candle is but a waste.

So true ,Aphroditei! It's the union of the two that creates the magic.Imagine the flame burning in the air and the egotistical candle standing proud and upright at a distance. It will look like love is fighting impudence and God ,the devil.I love the natural color of apples, lol. You too have a great holiday!:-D

And also, by avoiding or trying to keep a distance, they are just fighting their selves. I think this could also be apply to persons who truly love each other, but with fears of melting out the candle, or the candle not being strong enough to sustain the flame; they end up living apart. One in the solitude and loneliness of his/her, he/she might think, useless or meaningless life. And the other with the brilliance and luminosity of happiness, but which will end ephemeral, because that flame has no candle to lean on. (^^,)

You never stop to amaze me Bluewings! Very well said. And maybe that's why women are enigmas; because of their elements' instability/softness and a great contrast to the man's elements. And I agree, if God would had created the woman first...hmmm, that would have change a lot things. And maybe women would have a different image, a coarser and rougher one. Not that pretty ha.~~lol And yes, if they work together, a candle and a simple flame, they would illuminate even the darkest places. Have a great holiday! and thank you too! and by the way, I love green apples!!(^^,o)

I feel it works both ways! It is not just men unable to live without women it is also women who can not live without men. But if humans from birth are conditioned to live without each other then maybe we can live without each other....Like if women lived in a different planet and men lived in different planet and we never met ever then I guess we would live without each other but until such a day does not come we need each other to critcize, bicker about, have fights with, to love, to care for etc, etc....

Very well said Dea, the planet earth won't be the same if we haven't got males or females around. And each of them plays a key role in maintaining a balance. Have a nice day dear!(^^,)

Geee. this is a good story, and the last line is sooo great. YEp. as a woman sometimes i think why we always have a man problem. Well that's a relationship rite? we angry, we sad, upset, happy, it's all happen becos we care bout him/her because we have a feeling. Well live with happy feeling doesn't bring u to the fullest of life too. But here's the deal, we can't live alone, but when we together we can feel so light up. Well this story is half taking from the bible, i'm curious bout the pope, etc, etc who doesn't married. hmm cos the fact God create a pair of human :)

Thanks for your response Qoo_rie! I think for the pope and others too, who remain single. It's more a matter of choice, of free will. But it doesn't mean they are not capable of loving or living with their counterpart. Maybe they choose a more quiet life. ~~lol Have a nice day! (^^,)

Yes, you have a point. Things are fuzzy. And maybe they are not soul mate after all, that's why they didn't ended together. I also think it's because of fear of getting hurt and rejection. I think to love and accept your counterpart or your soul mate. You should accept and embrace your true self first. Because insecurities, fears, and doubts, brings brick walls in a relationship. And no matter if you are meant together and can't work together to solve this issues. The relationship would be rough and may end up on the rocks. Have a great holiday Qoo_rie! And thank you for your response, I really appreciate it! (^^,)

yap.. but if he or she choose the quiet life, means the soulmate has to find another mate for her/himself.... cos they not only choose a quiet life, they're throwing another life... n there's a lot of human. this things are so fuzzy n never have the conclusion rite? thx have a nice day too

Frankly speaking, I disliked the story very much. I dislike all such stories and ideas (whether jokingly created or not), that project women as a gift of God to man. Why cant it be the other way round? Why can’t God have gifted men to be played by women, instead??? Are women meant to be soft toys for men to cuddle and then and punch at will? Are women always bickering and complaining? Mere arm-candies created by God to entertain man? Are women all emotions, nothing concrete in them? If you think only of animal strength, a wild boar is stronger than most men, so do men allow themselves to be ruled by wild boars? They say, men are more intelligent than women, hence men should be heads of families! They give examples like all the world’s greatest scientists, composers, musicians, painters etc etc were all men. I say, give women the same chance and freedom for just 100years and they will outshine men in every department. They say women can’t tolerate each other, women are petty and selfish. I say, take a peek into the corporate world and see how men treat each other. They say women are weak physically and can’t take hardships of the outside world. I say, if possible, make arrangement for one man to give birth the natural way, the entire mankind will understand what bearing pain means. Please don’t misunderstand me…I am not a feminist. It certainly is a fact that man and woman complement each other, but this should be accepted by both and mutual respect shown to each other. But I definitely dislike such ideas, which project women as weaklings. Instead, read this: “If you ever thought why God created Man first and then women, just understand that all great things need a draft copy first!”

Thank you Sudiptacallingu! It's okay... I appreciate your response very much...And do understand your point...And I think the story is also saying that men can't live without women. So women are not the weakest link in this story, but more a complimentary link...a partner in life.. And I believe too that men were designed to play an important role... In that partnership...in the alliance of two body and souls under the watchful kind eyes of our Creator.. And as you said "mutual respect" and acceptance are keys for that successful partnership....and it also applies to any relationships as well... And by accepting each of us differences...our weaknesses and strengths... The Real Empowerment begins...(^^,)

nice story aphroditei. the description is indeed apt and so is the adage. my husband's family used to complain that i don't talk atall!!! and my husband used to boast of being having a prudent (silence is prudence, lol) wife. but then, he had so many other problems with me which, eventually didnot get sorted. i feel, we all are in a catch 22 situation where we are stuck loving and not loving..

The creator wasn't creative enough. He could have made another woman and that would give the story a twist. Man are pleasure seeking and conflicting creatures. Hence, one minute he cannot live with her and one minute he cannot live without her. One simple illustration : He cannot live with her if she constantly nags at him. He cannot live without her if she does not cook for him.

very nice!i think women do have all the features of those elements used for making a woman as the story tells.in china,we have a similar saying that woman is made of water.^_^i think its true that men need us but find us troublesome at the same time(i admit that we're too sensitive and emotional sometimes).they are just paradoxical creature.:P
