need help to upload picture

i am a new member of mylot and so far i am enjoying the discussions as there are so many things to talk about here. when i first registered i didn't put much information on my profile.now, i am trying to put as much information as i can and i'm also starting to upload photos. however, i can't seem to figure out how to upload a picture of my self so that you won't be seeing a person with no eyes, nose and hair on a green background and with a sort of a bubble with an exclamation point inside, you know what i mean? (the picture that appears above our username) i know how to load personal photos and photos for my discussions but i just can't seem to figure that one out. please help me.....thanks :)
