Buy online, pick up at the store?

Has anyone done this? We made an online order last night from lowes.com around 11pm, and chose to do the store pick up to save on all the shipping charges, and it was ready at 9am today! Wow, thats good service. I had to stand around for a few minutes while they worked everything out, but it was fast, easy and free! Have you ever done this? Do you like it? I think it's a great idea, personally.

I did this once, and it happened to be at Lowe's too! LOL But I didn't like the experience. It was about a 40 minute trip to get there, which I wouldn't have minded so much if the people at Lowe's would have been more helpful. Okay, so it wasn't too bad at first. I had an employee help me find the item and I let her know that I already paid for the it, a big shop vac. She even put it in the basket for me. But she didn't let me know where I was supposed to go afterward. I did ask her but she didn't know (big surprise!) so I assumed I was supposed to go to the checkout...it made sense to me. I went through it with no problem and started for the exit. The Lowe's person at the door stopped to look at the receipt, which was the one I printed up. They said I had to go to customer service and show them that I indeed already paid for it. Okay, I was a little irritated that the cashier didn't let know this...she was as confused about it as I was about this whole buy it online and pick up at the store thing. Then it took longer than it should have as the people at customer service DID NOT know what they were doing either! After several minutes of waiting for them to find the forms needed for me to fill out, during which they helped a customer behind me (how rude is that?), and then having to fill it all out, I just about had it with Lowe's. It didn't help matters that my husband and kids were with me that day. If I would have known it would have been such a hassle I wouldn't have done this to begin with, and I haven't done it since. I'm glad to hear that your experience was better than mine! LOL

Something tells me that even if I HAD gone straight to customer service, I still would have been sent to look for it myself! LOL Buying online and picking up at the store was relatively new to them at the time, but it still discourages me from trying it again. Oh, and my husband was PO'd big time from having to wait...I ended up having him take the kids back to the car so that I wouldn't have to deal with him while trying to get all the 'mess' sorted out. LOL

If my purchase can be picked up at the store I will do it, otherwise I'll have it shipped to where-ever I am. I prefer to buy on line, if I'm looking for something specific, because I have more time to look around for it, and of course the selection is bigger. You just can't find good Turkish Delight or real Danish pasteries here in Ontario Canada. LOL

Yes I do it all the time- You can get a lot of great online deals- deals they don’t offer in the stores- and then pick it up—No shipping! I do it at Linens and things, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, and even Lowe’s. Just like you said- no shipping costs and it is convenient! I bought my computer online to do the online rebates. I bought it through Best Buy- I went an hour later and it was all ready- I paid online so all I had to do was pick it up! How cool is that! I think more and more people are doing this.

Yes, I've done that with Sears. It saved me a lot of time and money. I don't have to wait long at all for my product to get to the store and for it to be ready for pick-up. It was so easy and convenient. I like this extra service a lot.

I do that all the time from Futureshop up here. It is in a different town but if they have online deals we purchase them that way if we are going to the city anyway and then go pick them up. It also ensures that there will be one guaranteed for us when we arrive.

I like this because i can laze around in bed and shop whenever i feel like it. No walking around, no worrying if the kids are going to break anything in the store, you can compare products much easier and read reviews. Then the next day i can go whenever it suits me and get the stuff. it's a great idea!

no, i never really do it before actually... i am the type of person who has to touch and see the thing physically before i am willing to spend my money to buy it... so i hardly buy stuffs online... i prefer to go to the store, shop around, make my selection carefully by touching and looking at the item that i want to buy before i buy it which i can't do it online...

Most places up here don't offer it yet. We were really happy to find out that our Walmart will be offering it starting on July 9th. We're buying the baby's Sesame Street bedroom furniture and a couple of other things from Walmart.com, and we weren't looking forward to the shipping charges. This way, the stuff should arrive at our store a couple of days before the baby and I get back from Missouri, so my husband will be able to set Elliott's new room up at the new house before we get home. That way he doesn't have to set the crib back up or anything.

I love this option...I do it with groceries, hardware, even clothing...love the online convenience and the fast pickup at the store!! The shipping charges are always inflated in my opinion!!! Of course, if gas prices keep climbing it will cost the same to go to the store and pick it up!!! LOL

Yup, bought online and picked up at the store before. I'm not sure if that's really saving me anytime though on the times that I've done it. Usually when I need something, it's not 2 weeks later but it's now.
