I am not in the married state but what is it that causes the collapse of marriage..? What do you think is necessary for the permenance of marriage..? Can marriages really be "till do us part"

I'm not sure why some marraiges last and others don't. Perhaps unrealistic expectations play a part in it. Perhaps one spouse expects the other to be perfect all of the time. There has to be a lot of give and take and in the bad times, you have to remind yourself why you loved this person in the beginning even though you might not like them right now. Also...the past couple of generations, I think people got married thinking "if it doesn't work out, we can always get a divorce". That's just opening the door to failure. When I was young, we knew marraige was forever, no matter what. I will be married 37 years in June and I'm convinced it is because my husband is a saint!

I am not married but I do believe there must be something in the giving and taking that equals out on both parts..and trust and love and communications.. These things come into play even in other "non-married" relationships.
