please tell me how to educate a 4 year old boy.

this morning I have quarrelled with my wife on how to educate our 4 year old son. my wife is very strict with him, while I usually emphasise the freedom and self developing. In fact, now we even do not know how to educate our son. He is very clever, but sometimes much too naughty. I, here, strongly appreciate your ideas.
