One of the Job Requirements: Should have Pleasing Personality?

In our country this is a usual qualification for an applicant. One should have a pleasing personality. This past few days, I found myself busy for a job hunt. And I noticed most of their pre-requisite is to have this pleasing personality. I know that if you are applying for a position which will have to face their customers or some important people, this requirement would be applicable. I don't look good much and I wonder if I could do it. I'm looking for an office job specifically in finance. Even with this position pleasing personality is being required for the job. Do you think it is really important for a job to include such requirement? I need to hear comments from other people. Will you share your thoughts?

i feel that any job out in this world we live in today involves a certain amount of teamwork, and needs people to people relationships are very important, as such a pleasing personality isnt too much to ask for as a prerequisite for a job, as this would ensure there everything would go smoothly at the workplace

well in the philippines "pleasing personality" means you can be closer to your boss, i think sales ladies should have pleasing personality because they interact with the customers but being at finance doesnt need to have pleasing personality, becuase you dont interact with your consumers, i think you should just be yourself it will make you more productive than pretending to be not what you are.

Firstly, I wish you all the best in getting the job and importantly your future superior and future colleagues are pleasant people who get along with each other to produce good teamwork. I believe this is why pleasing personality is a requirement for jobs. Good luck.

I would think it depends on the job itself. It does help to have a pleasing personality as he will be more "acceptable" by many and pleasing to the eye. In fact, I would classify the employer as practicising discrimination. Pleasing personality is rather subjective and depends on the interviewer's "maturity". What is pleasing to one might not be pleasing to another. I would not even consider applying the job if "pleasing personality" is one important prerequisite as I would have doubts about the job scope and their expectation.

I think they are really saying they want you to appear pleasant at work. You don't really have to feel pleasant or be pleasant in the privacy of your own life. I personally hate being told HOW to be so I wouldn't apply for it. I think it is annoying to be told I have to be pleasing...but thats just me.

That's the point. I wanted to be myself, I don't want to pretend as someone else. I may not look good for some people but I'm sure I could please them with my attitude. Thank's for sharing thoughts!
