toothpaste in the toilet

We have a shelf above the toilet that our toothpaste sits on. Normally this isn't a problem. One day hubby knocks it off the shelf and you guessed it sploop into the toilet it went. It was a new tube so he grabs it out of the toilet and rinses it off and replaces it to the shelf. I grabbed it and threw it out. He said I was being silly, it was a new tube and the water in the toilet is fresh and clean and the bowl is clean so there is no problem. He was probably right but I still couldn't bring myself to use it and went out a bought a new one. Would you throw or keep the tube?

That sounds like something that would happen here at my house. I would have thrown it away in a heart beat and I know my husband would have gotten upest with me and said the same thing your husband did. Only my husband would have grabbed it out of my hand before I got to the trash and would have used it just to spite me. He's stubborn like that sometimes. But I am pretty over cautious about things too.

My husband does things out of spite too. Luckily we have a good sense of humour.

Yes I would have but I am cheap. If I knew the toilet was clean, and as you said it was a brand new tube, I would have used some disinfectant on the tube and squeezed out the beginning of the tooth paste but that should have been fine, there is not anyway water could get inside the tube if it was closed up.

I think it is a matter of mind over matter.

I know that on the average toilet per square cm the amount of bacteria is 4, in comparison's to hundreds and even thousands on desks and phones and such. But the idea of taking something out of it which ends up going into your mouth in some way... I'd ditch it out :P.

It is just the thought of it for me too...
