Vinegar for weedkiller?

United States

I was given some advice recently from some mylotters to use vinegar as a natural weedkiller. My question is this, do I use regular white vinegar or cidar vinegar? My mom said white vinegar is made from rice, and that cider vinegar is made from apple cider, and she would also like to know which one to use for the weed killer. She uses cidar vinegar for EVERYTHING, basically. All sorts of health issues and for cleaning, etc. I'm looking forward as usual to hearing from you.

It doesn't really matter what it's made from, you can make it more effective by getting up the acidity concentration by in example distillating it or making use of freeze evaporation.

White vinegar for a weed killer. It works okay, but not very well. I had to use it several times. As soon as it rained the grass/weeds came right back. It wasn't as effective as I'd hoped. That was my experience anyway?

I do not think it matters which color you use. The white is cheaper, and I use it for cleaning the coffee pot, etc. I am going to try it on weeds, and to repel flies.Like someone else posted. I use white vinegar in my fabric softener ball, it works, leaves no fragrance and slightly whitens or brightens your clothes. I do not think the brown would do as well there. It is the acid in it that kills the weeds. Yes, vinegar--apple cider kind, is good for health issues, especially used in combination with honey.

I have never heard of using vinager as weed killer, but I have heard of boiling water. Maybe if you boil the vinager first it would work better. I have also heard of using salt on them. Good luck to you.

Hi, In regards to vinegar as a weedkiller no you would not use cider vinegar you have to use white vinegar. I do use three kinds of vinegars but not for killing the weeds so I hope that this has answered your question in regards to which vinegar to use.

Thanks, I didn't know that and will start using it, It doesn't matter if it doesn't work as good as chemicals. It will be safer.
