I love swimming. I think it's one of the best forms of exercise in the world. I also surf (badly but I try). It keeps me fit and happy :) Even doggie paddle is good for you so don't sweat it too much.

i know *how* to swim but i can't do it. i'm terrified of drowning. i also cannot lift my head up for just half a second to breath. i have asthma and i always need to take deep, hearty breaths. i can swim on my back alright if i concentrate. but i'm mostly terrified of water. i almost drowned twice at the ymca when i was little.

Yeah I learned to swim by sneaking into an outdoor hotel swimming pool *grins* with me and my family. I liked the hotel swimming pool because there's no lifeguard, unlike our apartment complex, it has a lifeguard, so I didn't want lifeguards watching me while I was trying to learn how to swim. It's been a month and I now know how to do the frog style swim, the float, the crawl, and I came up with a dog style swim technique, etc. I don't like dunking my head under water because it slows me down while I swim, maybe I will practice later. I taught myself how to swim and then go on my back to float when I get tired and then go back swimming again (as a survival technique). I didn't even take swimming lessons. My spouse taught me a little bit but the rest I had to figure out on my own. I saw "how to" swimming vids on youtube and I learned how to float by watching there. I was determined how to swim so I practiced alot and when I knew how to swim at the hotel swimming pool, I was more comfortable swimming at our pool in our apartment complex, with the lifeguard. By the way, the hotel swimming pool, which is outdoors, anybody can easily access it and you don't need a key to enter and they even provide towels. However, it is a smaller swimming pool, it only goes up to 5 feet, whereas, the swimming pool at our apartment complex goes up till 9 feet. My goal now is to get over my fear of jumping into the pool and dunking my head underwater while swimming. I can't believe how much weight I lost swimming. I think I lost about 10-15 lbs. For moderate swimming for 20 minutes, you already burn over 200 calories. My 4 year old still has trouble swimming though. He still uses a life jacket and a float noodle while trying to swim. Hopefully, he will get better over the years. I attempted to swim when I was 11 years old. My cousins had an outdoor swimming pool in their apartment complex. They all knew how to swim except me. No one taught me. They were all laughing at me. I kept walking on the footing. All throughout the summer, I was like that. And then last year when we went to Hawaii and swam at our hotel pool, I still didn't know how to swim. Even my mom and my aunt. We all kept walking in the footing. Only last month was when I learned to swim.

Yes I can swim, but I'm not really good at it. I learn to swim in the fresh water. When I was young my siblings and friends are always go to water falls near to our home. We normally go there in the morning and take some food with us and come back home after lunch. It was fun though, but now I don't have a chance to go swimming often and its been two years since I went swimming. Thanks!
