This is going to sound really bad but I work in mental health and often end up running erronds for my patients that are out of hours and that I am not paid for, at times it actually takes me out of my way. I do this because they are locked up, unable to go shopping and often have no family to do things for them. That's about the limits of my volunteer work.

Twice a yearI make a quilt, one for the grends' school, and the other for the minor football league in my city. I'm not supporting some charity that pays its ceo hundreds of thousands of dollars every year.

Over the years, I have done lots of volunteer work with kids. I have helped at the preschool, and the elementary schools. I have done fundraising for coats for kids and toys for tots. I have done volunteer work at the senior citizen center as well. These days I am mostly doing fundraising for Hospice of Michigan, although my children and I will be spending a weekend this month volunteering a local Music and Arts festival.

We have spent the weekend camping out while we volunteer at the festival every year since the first year it started. This is the fifth year of the festival and we haven't missed one yet.

My schedule's crazy right now, so I can't volunteer anywhere that requires regular hours (which seems to be pretty much every place around me.) But, when I can, I volunteer at the food bank, and I hope to be able to start at the animal shelter soon.

I forgot to add that I also do some knitting for charity, since I can do it at home - snuggles for animal shelters, and some shawls and blankets.
