I think that has to be the hardest job of all the chores to do around the house. I've done away with most of the carpeting and gone to wooden floors. It's so much easier to keep clean and, even when I vacuum, it's much easier than pushing the wand back and forth over carpeting. It doesn't say much for my stamina and strength, but if I do an area rug I have to take a break before I continue. I wonder if you could just paint an area rug where you wanted it? I've actually seen that done...and that's the total end of carpeting.
