how to block spam mails?

to day when i opened my email account i found 20 spam mails.i dont know how spammers get my id and started sending emails to my id.they tend to send same mail with same content everyday.is there any good software(prefer freeware)to block spam mails

You know these mails are frustrating.They have some freaky subject which will make us laugh.I get so many of this kind.Dont respond to these mails.I once got a mail stating KEEP THIS SECRET.DONT TELL ANYONE.Heh..I got one mail recently which said there is some money which is not being claimed by anyone.And the person wants me to do it.Asked for the details.Too stupid.I use to open my mail box to see if i have got any mails from my Internet marketing friends.But then i will realise that its these frustrating people again.
As the First replier said,it is better to use gmail.
