My daughter has nystagmus. She was born with congenital motor nystagmus. Hers is also called pendular horizontal nystagmus which means with her type of nystagmus her eyes go left and right in unison with each other. To describe it would be like her eyes are racing. Congenital means from birth she had this condition. We dont know what caused it even though there was an mri done at least its nothing like a tumor or anything like that. I think it was something that happened during pregnancy that caused it. When she was born her eyes would race so fast that she couldnt see. Over time it decreased and she would tilt her head down to get her eyes to focus better. She is 3 1/2 now and her eyes rarely race anymore only when she is sick or really tired will you notice it. If she lays down and looks a certain way it was start. She recently started noticing it and asked me "mommy what is the ceiling doing?" and I explained to her what her eyes do. When she was a baby they would race so bad that the doctor didnt know if she would ever be able to drive a car one day. She had occupational therapy to help improve things they did tracking exercises and it helped a lot. She used to get car sick all the time as well which if you imagine how you feel when you are on a spinny rid and you stop and the world looks like its still spinning you can imagine how things looked for her when her eyes were racing and why it would make her so sick when the objects out the window were racing one way and her eyes were racing and making things look like the world was racing in an opposite direction.
