Can you drink skim, 1% fat free or non fat milk?

The fat-free milk (or skim milk as its commonly called in the USA) and 1% are so watery, I myself cant stomach it. When my only brother (at age 35) went into the hospital on his one and only (I hope) time as a patient, they sent him skim milk with his breakfast. He actually called me at home, AT 0730, waking me up and told me "they" were trying to poison him, because the milk was GRAY in color! He was totally grossed out! In fact, everytime he looked at the glass on his tray as he spoke to me, he began gagging. Does he bother to ring for dietary to change it? No. Call his wife, the mother of their 3 children? No. He calls me, his oldest sister who is the hospital's midnight charge nurse. I got up froim my warm bed after just coming home from work and drove back to the hospital with a thermos of the 2% kind our family normally drank and he almost didnt believe ME! I informed him if he sniffed into the thermos and gave me a suspicious eyeball he'd wear it. He drank the whole quart without pre-inspection or incident. I retrieved the thermos, kissed him good-bye again(!), started to leave and saw the morning floor staff were in hysterics. I warned them that if anyone, including the doctor (who was laughing as well), orders my brother skim milk again, I will be back that night with a vengence (and they knew I wasnt kidding). Normally I would tell my brother to go to the devil or grow up, but he had had a mini-stroke and was scared being in the hospital with all the bloodwork and multiple testings. So I pampered him (for that time) since he retreated back to when he was "the baby" and always looked up to "big sis" for the answers. He still does, occasionally (but not on the subject of milk anymore - LOL).

LOL oh you poor thing, but thank you for sharing that story, totally worth the laughs, and this will be something yous chuckle over a lot in the future. Me, I cant drink skim either, I tried doin 1% - I couldnt. It was even chocolate flavor. That extra 1% in 2% makes a world of difference to me!!

skim milk - Yes I drink skim or non fat milk, and as far as I can remember the color was white not gray.
Yes I drink skim or non fat milk, and as far as I can remember the color was white not gray. My husband doesn't like it when I buy skim milk because he said it tasted funny and watery, he also added that I don't need to lessen the fat in my body because I'm already skinny. hahaha! So now I just drink skim milk when I order a frappucino in starbucks.

That was nice of you to take care of your "baby brother" when he needed you. As for the milk, I do not care for the skim milk, as it tastes too watered down. I do not mind the 1% milk though or even 1/2%. It is ok to drink, although I prefer the 2% instead. It really does not make much difference to me when eating it on cereal or something like that though.

I can't drink milk alone. Only with something else, because I don't really like the taste as much as I do with a little snack or something. Otherwise It makes me feel ill and would rather drink water ;) ~Joey

I cant drink it either, I cant even drink the premade chocalate milk that is 1% which seems to be what they give you everywhere now at resturants. But it is like water and it just doesnt have the milk flavor. I drink the whole milk so if skim milk crossed my cup i would definitly know the difference. I hope your brother is well and later on the 2 of you can look at this and laugh together about the milk incident.

I grew up drinking 2%. When I got married my wife would drink 1%. I got used to it and she switched to skim. We used to buy 1% and skim at the same time until I finally just started drinking skim and we've drank it ever since. Whenever I drink 2% now, the extra fat makes me want to spit or something after I drink it since I'm so used to skim.
