When it approaches knock-off time.....

Are you "charged" when it is knocked off time? - A humorous depict of "Life After Death"... Knock Off Time.

It is past office hours. There are still people in the office. Phone calls keep coming in. I picked up a call. "Why are you still around, not going back?". Good question, why am I still around? "What about you? Still calling at his hour?" "I wanted to leave too, but I have lots of things to clear!" Pity these people who have tons of work to clear even after office hours. I have observed that many people looked forward to knock off time and are gradually energised when it is approaching knock off time. I am no saint and guilty of it too. Often, I am in office after office hours, not to do office work, not to chit-chat, but to enjoy the aircon and the peace of the day with my radio playing louder than usual volume. I do DO real work at times. lol. When it comes to knocking off time, Do you pack up, wait for the clock first chime from the click and step out of your desk to the door? Or do you start to pack up and leave only after the boss leaves? Or do you ignore the clock and keep on working? Or do you stay back and do personal stuffs, like what I am doing now... Kindly share how you end your day at work..... Or if you are not working, how do you end your day?

Just like the rest of us, I as well is looking forward for that knock-off time. I finish my work an hour before knock-off time, well I am not that busy at all. I'm just doing clerical jobs that is why. I spend my remaining one hour reading or browsing the net and just waiting for the time.

I had to laugh at your post because I did almost everything you said when I was working last year. Depending on what time I got into the office, it determines what time I was able to leave. We were paid by the clock so if you came in late and left early, you were minused time which mean minus $$ in your paycheck so I tried to make sure I worked the necessary hours to get my full pay every week. Some days I'll work late because i have a deadline and some days its because my ride to pick me up would be arriving late. Some days I have even found myself talking with my friends and work colleagues without realising the time and only when I get a phone call from the hubby asking where I am, I dash off home LOL Being a stay at home mom now, I usually have a routine and try to put my son to bed around the same time each day so then when he is asleep I'm able to laze about, watch tv, surf online, have a soak in the bathe or even read a book. I have at times fallen asleep with him LOL

I know some deduct pay for coming in late but did not pay more for staying late. What about your case? If you are paid for working more hours than necessary, not too bad to stay back and chat :P

i have a very simple answer, there is no way this period of my life, that i will be staying at work more then eight hours. If it is not my business, things can wait till the next day. There will be always many things to do, it is an never ending story, and we do have to drew a line. If it was my business i know that i would have stayed many long hours, but as a hired worker i won't. I was working at the past for long hours, and learned that it is not good for me, there is no end for that, and things can always be continued tommorow.

I just like to work as hard as I can during the work night and then leave as soon as I can the next day. The one thing that I don't like about some jobs is that the company thinks that they own you. That is why I love being partially self-employed and hope for the day when I can once again be fully self-employed. I know that because it happened once that it will again.

I would take every chance I ever could to get out of there as soon as I could. I was always pretty good at getting done what needed doing and not needing to stya afterwards. I would even be done with everything ahead of time and always though it was such a waste of time to have to sit around twiddling my thumbs when if I left just a bit earlier I could avoid the worst of the commute traffic, which was a real headache.

The traffic is one reason why I stay late. I rather spend the time in office than stuck in the jam.

Whenever its 15 min before knock-off time in office, people start packing their bags, turning off their pc in advance, i watch them and generally pack off after everyone :)

I used to work flexi-hours at American Express, so I didn't have that problem. I worked from eight to four most days and my deadlines were all 3.30, so after deadline, I started to get some stuff together for the next morning, and at four o'clock, left the office. Very occasionally, somebody else would need help to get finished up and I would stay back and help, but that didn't happen too often, and they would do the same for me. So there you have it, my friend.

Normally, I will leave at the scheduled time of departure. If something important is there to be done, of course, official and it cannot be delayed till the next day, I will stay back, finish my job and they leave.

How do I end my day? I don't know. Maybe sharpening my fangs a little and checking if my claws are still sharp, LOL! I'm mostly busy the whole day and can only have the quiet night by myself. Pretty much like a night owl, don't you think. I remember when I was still working in the office before, my work will keep piling up by the end of the office hours. I usually stayed late in the office with some co-workers. I avoided looking at the watch and just keep working so I can have my late night dinner which was 2 in the morning. But hey, my former boss was generous anyway. I got paid for the extra hours slaving myself to hunger.

I used to work late too. Now I don't because work never end. At least you are paid for overtime, I am not. Not even dinner provided :(
