Have you heard of Sauna Suits?

If so have you ever used one? Did you see a benefit from it? For those who don't know a sauna suit is a vinyl suit, similar to a sweat suit but 'plastic'. The idea is your body heat is held in by the suit causing you to sweat and thus lose water weight. They also say the added heat helps to burn fat and help avoid muscle pains when working out. Ok, true confession time here - back in the 70s when I was working as a model in LA we did something like this but with food wrap or any plastic we could find that we could wrap or tape around us. Yes you heard me right, if you put on even one extra pound you were doing anything you could to get it off including wrapping yourself in plastic. Well I've moved up in the world yesterday I invested in a sauna suit - a whole $7 at WalMart. This evening with the house empty I put on a pair of sweats then put the sauna suit over it and danced and sang to 60s music in my living room for an hour. I sweated like crazy but am telling you I feel great (after a shower that is)! LOL - anyone else wanna join me in the sauna?

I haven't heard about sauna suits yet. I'm not sure if its available in my country. I'm not sure either if I can wear it or not since I'm a little underweight. It sounded cool though and wouldn't mind trying it on for some good sweat. I read what you said to the first poster. Working as a model is not easy. My guy best friend has been a model for 15 years and he had seen the best and worst of the modeling world. He needed to go to the gym everyday and worked hard to maintain his abs. He also experienced gays coming on to him. He was finally able to relax and breathe deeply when he quit modeling.

I would say if you did find one that you should only use it for a short time - you don't need to lose weight but I'm telling you sweating that 'junk' out of my pores feels so good right now. Yep, any time I hear someone talking about going into modeling I do anything and everything I can to talk them out of it. I was very thin but just a couple pounds 'that time of month' could kill a shoot particularly in a two piece swim suit :( I still don't eat 'right' but at least I have gotten away from the binge and purge thing - my insides and bowels are so messed up from laxetives it's frigtening.

I know what you mean, faith. I used to be a ballet dancer and we we're required to be 10 pounds lighter than our normal weight. You wouldn't believe how high the laxatives I was taking. Some of the members actually walked out because they can't take the pressures anymore. Its a good thing I was able to have my bowel movement back to normal again. But it took me a long time.

That was the same for us, 10 under or more - for my height I was actually 20 under what the doctors recommend for small boned women. I don't know if I'll ever get straightened out but at least it hasn't effected me as seriously as it has some.

This is so spooky...I bought one today at Walmart. LOL I've been walking 30 mins. each morning (I give myself one day off a week) since April 30th. As soon as CJ gets on bus for school I've been putting on an abestos suit (one piece), put sweats over that, and headed out with my walkman and a Propel sports bottle filled with my homebrewed green tea in each hand for replenishing fluid loss as well as doubling for arm weights. I'll tell you what, by the time I get home my body is so wet that it takes about 5 mins. to pry the suit off. Then I jump in shower and it feels so good...My husband said he'd get me another suit from work because there's a rip in the leg of mine but if I had to wait for him..? So, when I went to Walmart I noticed they had a black sauna suit and snatched it, as well as a 'tummy' belt that's going to go under that. I also grabbed a 10 min. Pilates DVD that came with a free pedometer in it. Mark gave me 20 bucks to get some good walking shoes; I 'power-walk'... So tomorrow will be my first day with new suit, shoes and tummy belt. I've already lost so many inches since end of April I can't believe it. I don't weigh myself because I get discouraged easily when I don't see quick results, so when I notice that my clothes feel better and I feel better that's what keeps me going. Good for you, Faith...Keep it up and we can let each other know how it's going. Just make sure that keep replenishing your body with fluids as you lose them or you will faint, etc.

LOL...CJ gets on bus a few mins. after 8am; then I'm out the door. Takes me about 32 mins. to finish my walk so I'm back a bit after 8:30. Illinois time, that is... The main reason I wear mine under my sweats is that I need to carry cell phone (just in case school calls), mace (because of the dogs, etc.)...As I was walking yesterday I saw up ahead of me what I thought was a dog but as I got closer it walked off and I thought it was a cat. Then, as I came right up to it I found out it was a baby wild cat of sorts, and it took off running into the woods. A bit scary...I also have to have somewhere to clip my walkman...LOL.

Ok, shortly after 8 I'll head out - if we run into each other we'll know we went too far... We have bobcats in our area - I've seen a couple, their scarey looking. LOL - I would wear another sweat suit or jacket over - I can't stand the feeling of wet plastic on my skin and don't want anyone I know to see me walking around in that goofy suit - and believe me, it's difficult for me to go anyplace without seeing someone I know, half my church lives right here in town including the lead pastor who lives just up the road from me, he passes my house every day on his way to the church.

They were quite common in the 60's as wellI remember my sister putting one on under here dress before going out in the evening sometimes, she had a bad habit of overeating when we were at the park having hotdogs and hamburgers over open fires,so she said she did not want it to show and get rid of it as soon as possible. I on the other hand, was always to skinny,I could, and am still able to eat to my hearts content and never gain an ounce,so never found out what it felt like to wear all that plastic.lol Made her mad at me,but good chuckle. Blessed Be.

I know I have the same problem with my sisters, their both heavy although one just went through the stomach surgery thing - she has lost a lot of weight. I'm average now but with my age am concerned about it sneeking up on me so try to keep it in check although I am not consistant.

$7? That's a huge roll of Saran Wrap. hahaha. Just kidding. I remember in the late 60's and early 70's when models etc used Saran Wrap wrapping their bodies fully to sweat off excess pounds. I don't think I'd fit in it with you? Or would I? Hahahaha!!! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM (slim) GRANDPA BOB !!~

I can't believe that I'm going to say this. Well yes I can actually. But what really stinks is the person as they remove the suit after a long time wearing it outdoors in a strenous workout. Hahahahaha! HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have never heard of a sauna suit. I wonder if they have them here in Canada. I will do anything to accellerate my weight loss. I lost another 3.6 pounds this week for a total of 9.6 in 2 weeks. Though I went to Red Lobster today and I over did it. I will be right on track tomorrow.

I'm guessing they do, check with department stores - I'm sure you have equivalents to our US Walmart, K-Mart, Meijers... You are doing great, it's much better to take it off slow, your more likely to keep it off that way. And great attitude about Red Lobster - depriving yourself totally can get really depressing and that causes more problems. Treating ourselves occasionally has always been a big help to me.

LOL I have never heard of them but the theory behind them makes perfect sense to me. I did not know that you used to be a model! That is so cool. I think every little girl wants to be one at some point in her life but you acturlly did it and I think that is great.

I love it - wish it wasn't raining right now even though it's late I feel like putting it on and going for a walk... Well I'll tell you the same I've told many others - it may be every little girls dream but it's not what it seems. You want to meet some viscous women trying being stuck in a room with a bunch of models - it's dog eat dog :( Also, for my short career I ended up with an eating disorder for 20 years that still has my system messed up (I was bulemic before it had a name). I would never encourage anyone to go into that field. Strange thing is I never had that dream. I got into it through a photographer that lived in the same apartment complex I did - 5'10" 125 pounds I had the build and he noticed it. Money was great but not worth what I ended up with.

LOL...I can see you dancing around in your little suit. I don't like being that hot, so, it's not something I would do. Besides that, you'll gain back any weight you lost as soon as you have a glass of water. So, it's not fat you're losing, just water. I can't believe they're still selling that.

I hate being hot but for a short period of time and knowing I can take a shower right after it's not bad. LOL - I do love to dance and what's really funny is when I pretend I'm dancing with someone,,,ummmm maybe that's why the kids laugh at me so much :)

Wish I'd been there with a camera...lol. I'd never heard of a sauna suit but I do dance a lot (not enough). Somehow the idea of a woman, overweight, with bad knees half way to 60 nearly does not conjure pretty thoughts. Unfortunately I never sweat much so I'm not sure how good a workout it is. I really should do it more often.

Half way to 60 - that's only 30 - you young thing you, just a kid, I have a son older than that...As for the overweight and all - LOL that's why I do it in the privacy of my own home :) Ok, I'm not really 'overweight' just a few extra pounds but I am old and not up with the latest moves. Funny thing is I very rarely sweat but I sure did with this suit on!

I have never heard of the sauna suits, although I remember hearing about the plastic wrap thing. I never tried it myself, although I had thought about it. My mom told me that it wouldn't be a healthy way to lose weight, so we went another route insead. I don't suppose it would be too unhealthy though if you didn't wear it all day of the time, which is what I was going to do with the plastic wrap.

I agree with your Mom it's not the healthiest way to lose weight but it does work. There is no doubt at all good diet and excersice are the best and long lasting. And no one should use this method for a long period of time I'm guessing you could actually dehydrate from losing to much water so caution should be taken and make sure to drink plenty of water.

I have not heard of it myself. I thought they were suits to be used in real spas with machines, not at home. But it sounds cheap, doesn't it? Is WalMart really selling things so cheap? We have no WalMart in Singapore and getting any suit of clothes for $7 seems impossibly cheap to me. I have heard of suits that "rearrange" the fats on your body so that you look thinner - you have to keep wearing them so that the new "shape" would stay. Instead of wearing that suit, here's a ridiculous suggestion - go for a run instead. If it is not safe, why don't you head over to WalMart and get a threadmill for $25? Since you are already moving on in this world, the sky is the limit. Cheers. ;-)

LOL - not ridiculous, running would be wonderful but my age and problems with my bones jumping into that could cause serious problems. I would however have a treadmill if I could get one for $25 dollars but the cheapest I've seen was almost $200. I have a stationary bike and a regular one which I do ride often when weather permits. Last night I was on the mini-trampoline some, I can get the benifits of running (in place) without the jarring effect on my bones.

I'm sorry but I haven't tried sauna suits or wraps so I can't share my opinion on this. Anyway, steam rooms works best for me. I usually go to the spa and spend 30 minutes on a steam room(recommended time is only 15minutes). It's pretty relaxing in there as you breathe in and breathe out. It's the one place where my mind need not work overtime. And I really feel light after. Who wouldn't be with all the calories you've just burned?

Sauna belts are used to loose weight. I think the sauna suit contains sauna belt also. Sauna belt is normally used around tummy to reduce fat in that area. Sauna belt help to sweat and thus burns the fat.

No my suit doesn't have a belt in it - the whole thing is like a sauna so it's not just in the area of a belt but from neck to ankles.

If you used it too much yes, dehydration could be a problem but it's recommended that you drink plenty of water and also that you limit the time you wear it.

Do you wear the whole suit or just 1/2 at a time? a lot of the time my sister would only wear the bottoms as she wanted to loose eight from her waist and hips and thighs. when she got it off the waist and thighs, she quit for a bit,but started looking for other ways to get it off the butt. She did try the plastic wrap, but as it was not full body wrap,it kept falling down on her. Did you or anyone else have this sort of problem? Blessed Be.

Thanks for sharing you story, I've heard of people using plastic wrap for weight loss before, I guess if it helps, why not. I've always wondered if those suits worked or even if they'll help. I need to lose weight, along with everything else I'm trying, I should try one too. After all, what do I have to loose, right? I have a treadmill, and maybe wearing one would turn up the heat on my workout. I think I'll run to Walmart and get one too.

Well, I haven't had a good work-out in months and did for over an hour last night but this morning my muscles aren't sore at all - I would say it certainly must work for that if nothing else. Hey run to Walmart to get one then put it on there and wear it while you run home :) Couldn't resist that one :) Walmart is about 15 miles from my house :( I'm not running there myself.

LOL At least you are having fun with it. Did you ever read the book Seabiscuit? .... about the little horse that could? It was an excellent read, I highly recommend it. Anyway, the author talked a lot about the life of the jockeys back then. Like models, they would do just about anything to keep their weight in the required range. One of the things they would do in despiration is go bury themselves in the pile of horse doodoo behind the tracks. It was like a compost pile turned on high, it would get really hot and help them drop a few pounds before weigh in. Can you imagine???
