Superstition or Feng Shui-What's the first thing you should put in a new home?

I will be moving into a brand new Condo next month. I plan to move a few small things over during the week, and do a big move on the weekend. This got me to thinking, what is the first thing I should put in my new place...I'm not talking from a pratical standpoint, but more for a standpoint of bringing good luck and happiness to our home. I remember when I got my first car. My Nana threw some coins on the floor. These were not to be used as money, but rather she said it was for good luck and to keep us safe. It's been 10 years, and I still have coins scattered on the floor...and scold friends when they try to use it to pay tolls ;-) Is there anything similar I could be doing for my condo? What have you done to bring luck and happiness into your home?

I have heard that the whole threshold thing isn't just for married couples. I've heard that when you first move into your place, that you should have both feet step over the threshold at the same time... which means, jump! I forget exactly why it's lucky, but you and anyone else moving in with you should not just step into the house one foot at a time. It's just some superstitious crap I'm sure, but, why not?

Actually, that sounds fun. I know it's kinda goofy to be superstitious like that....but it's also kinda fun. And I think on some level..I believe it :-)

I also found this online... When you move to a new house, always enter first with a loaf of bread and a new broom. Never bring an old broom into the house.

Hi there twilight021, the first thing I thought of was a Jade Plant, my sister swears by them. You should have a Jade plant in your entry hallway. Also a wind chime that will ring when you open the door fully. The door should gently tap the chimes when you open the door. It brings life into your home as you enter it...This is what I have heard and I hope that you enjoy your new condo. Bless you and your new home...take care...

Hi hi, i don't believe in fengshui. but if it makes you feel better, could be like a tradition thing? People throw rice at weddings, etc. Some chinese people roll a pineapple around the four corners of their home. But I've heard that that can be exhausting for the 'roller' haha. the most impt thing for happiness in a home is happy people. cheerio.

Ok.. twilight, I'm a pure Chinese and as far as I can tell, my mother had been so much addicted with this practice. I believe that the first you must do is consult someone who is knowledgeable on Feng Shui because there is a certain day and time that a person must move into his new house. This is base basically on the date where you are born and the time as well. This is done by computing base also on a Chinese calendar. you could also try to search some specific details here. (http://chinesefortunecalendar.com/) I hope this could help.
