Much depends on the particular site, since they vary widely in quality. I play most often on Party Poker and have never had a problem receiving money from them. Whatever site you pick, stick to the beginner tables as long as you can. If you cannot make a fair pile off those tables, you need more practice or study. Practice at free money tables is not that effective since most of the kids go all in every hand. The basics I have learned to so far. Don't chase flushes. Play about 30% of the hands, or in other words, patience, patience, patience. Pay attention to how other players play, even online they have tells. If you get angry, leave the table, angry poker will usually cost you. Be ready to lose to the bonehead newbie who calls into a pot with a 2-7 offsuit and catches a full house, it happens.
