How do you start sippy cups?

I've been trying for about 3 months now to get my son to drink from sippy cups but he doesn't seem to like them. He'll drink about half of whatever is in it and loose intrest. He's 11 months old and I am tempted to just throw out all his bottles. Any suggestions on how to get him used to them?

Some kids just take a little longer to get used to sippy cups. If they see an older kid drinking from a sippy cup, especially at that age, chances are they'll want to do it too. My son's 11 months as well and he started drinking from a cup first, at 8 months. Then we got him a sippy cup, which he kinda took to, but he still prefers either a cup or a bottle. Blessed Be

I started my daughter on one without handles at about 6 1/2 - 7 months & she took to is very well - you could try with or without handles & see if he prefers 1 over the other. If he's drinking some of it, then that's a good thing, my daughter never finished any of hers, she'd go back to it later though if she got thirsty. Just leave it somewhere with water or baby juice in it & make sure there are no bottles around the place, then when he's thirsty, he'll go for it when he feels like it - that was the advise i got the other day! You can try throwing out all his bottles but my daughter has just gone 1 & she still has a morning & bedtime bottle but everything in between is a sippy cup & only juice or water! I know in the USA there seems to be a big thing about weaning kids off the bottle by/at 12 months but it seems leaving it a little longer wont hurt either. You do what you think works but try making sure only the sippy cup is available to use at least during the day & he'll get to know that & start using it! Good Luck!
