I get out a trash bag and act like I'm going to throw them away. Works every time!

When my boys were little, if they didn't pick them and I had to I would store them in a box until they realized they had to keep them picked up. After about 3 times of this they kept them picked and put away.

I like that idea! I've never actually had to throw their toys away, though. The get the bag and start putting the toys away. I wish I had a place to put a box of toys. They get into everything!

If you have a closet you can put them in it and lock it up so they can't get to it. Try that and see if it works.

What are closets? LOL Our home is small; the closets we do have are packed (yes, I need to get them cleaned out as soon as I find out what spare time is!). I may be able to find a spot in the back of the basement somewhere, but the "hiding" spaces are tight.

When my 6-year-old was 3 or 4, if he didn't pick up his board games or if he was tearing them apart, I told him the Game Guy took them away until he can respect his games and put them away when he's done. It worked. They were easier to hide, because they're flat. They fit under my clothes in a drawer.
