Does smoking before breastfeeding harms my baby?

I have been smoking since I was in college. And I couldn't stop it till then. I have tried a few times but ending back to it again. The longest time I haven't smoke was when I was pregnent, the whole time. Two months after I gave birth, I couldn't help it. I had to smoke. I know its bad for the baby to smoke with her so I do it somewhere far. I read a few articles about smoking and breastfeeding. They said that its still best to breastfeed then smoke than smoking and not breastfeeding at all. Does anyone of you knows if I past nicotine to my baby if I breastfeed a few minutes after I smoke?
