from the sun. ok people say make sure you put sun block on your kids and protect their eyes by putting sunglasses. but my duaghter just got perscription glasses last week. now i've been to many different stores to buy those clip on sun glasses to put over the lenses so she still has her perscription ones on but is still protected from the sun. anyway i've asked around and they don't make them for kids with that small of glasses. so how do i protect her eyes when they don't even make them for small kids. and that's who they say you really need to protect them. these things drives me nuts. anyway i can send her glasses away to have a pair custom made but it's going to cost me almost 200 dollars and she won't have her glasses for a while.

My daughter has worn glasses since she was about 10 months old. Her first pair of glasses I didn't stop to think about protecting her eyes until I had already bought her glasses. Which made it too late to have them tinted. I bought her a pair of sunglasses that covered up her glasses. She would wear two pairs of glasses at the same time. She enjoyed doing this. I liked doing it this way as well because I didn't have to worry about her playing in the sand box as much. If the sunglasses got scratched I could just replace them for a couple of dollars. If her glasses got scratched it would have cost me $400.

thanks for the idea. that's what i thought of doing for just in the car as well. that's usually when the sun is in her eyes the most. i thought of it after i she got her glasses aslo. i didn't think of it until the day they came in.

Would your daughter be willing to wear a baseball cap? A hat would protect from the immediate glare from the sun. I know that there are some really cute ones out there, too! MY 2 year old loves to wear hats. They also make the lenses for glasses that go darker when out in the sun. I don't know if this is what you were speaking of, and I don't know if they are meant for little ones either. Good luck!

thanks for the idea i will put a baseball cap on her. i wasn't talking about those types of lenses. and if i went that way it would cost the same cause they'd have to do a new perscription. i'm looking for just regular sunglasses but in stead of having the things to hold them on your face that go behind the ears. it's just the lenses and a little clip on top and they fit right on top of persription glasses.

Thanks for the BR. :) I hope your little one is doing OK. Have you found a better solution to her sun protection problem?

i wouldnt worry to much, as long she got a hat and sunscreen and in a way the glasses she is wearing would help a bit to. none of the kids in my family have wore sun glasses as kids. so does your daughter need the glasses on all the time? or can she take them off when playing? coz if she can then you could get her to put the sun glasses on them. but myparents always told me and my siblings when growing up, never look into the sun as when you get older it will hurt your eyes and make you go blind so we like oh no dont look into the sun so we were pretty careful

You will really have to search for these stores, but any store that sells equipment for mill workers or loggers will have tinted safety galasses that will fit over her glasses. Also even though the store say they don't have them look anyway some of the adult clip ons are pretty small

thanks. i've looked anyway, and they look in their guide books for me. no one has been able to find anything that fits hers. her glasses are very small.

That is terrible! Wonder why they don't make them for small children's glasses? Maybe someone will have a solution for you, I'm sorry I don't know what to tell you.

that's ok i'm really just venting. it's just frustrating that doctors say protect them but then they don't sell anything in stores to protect them from the sun rays. i just find i get this often. it's like when you are looking for a job and no one wants to hire you cause you don't have any experience but then you can't get experience with out somone hiring you. it's one of those things that are so frustrating to me cause if doctors make such a big deal about making sure your kids are protected then those things should be easily available to buy

This is a hard one I must say. you don't mention how old your littl egirl is so I will give you a couple of options and hope they help you. As you say to have them custom made it is expensive. If she is still in her pram/pushchair then you could get one of those sun canopys for her which attach to the pram, if she is of walking age a sun hat with a large peak shoudl be sufficient adn these do come in sizes from newborn and can be reletively cheap depending on the style, some nowadays even come with speacial uv filters in the material. I hope you fnd this a cost effective way of keeping the sun from your daughters eyes. good luck.

What a shame that they don't make the clip on ones for children's small frames. Actually, I had an eye doctor to tell me that the clip on type and many regular sunglasses do not protect as well as they should anyway! He told me that a great deal of the sun damage still occurs as the sun comes in from the open sides! He said that the sunglasses that wrap around the side of the face are the best kind! I'm wondering if a pair of those would fit over her regular glasses? It might be a bit cumbersome though.

It probably depends on where you are from. When my son got his glassed, we got the ones that would tint when going outside. This way they are sunglasses when in the sun. He also was offered the glasses right at the eye doctors office that came with the clip to put on if he wanted sun glasses. He decided on the ones that change by themself for convience reasons. Call your eye doctor and see if they can help you without having to spend so much $$.

i guess you just have to stick to paying 200 bucks to protect her. after all, it's not gonna take so long before her glasses are returned. and just imagine the benefits of having one.

Thats terrible, what about getting a cheap pair of frames and getting the lenses dipped? I know at least before walmart and shopko used to offer this service, you can probably get a cheap pair online for less than $50 and take them to walmart/shopko or call around to stores like that in your area, and the dip was $10. So that's a little cheaper.

she can put regular sunglasses over her medicated ones. Plus, there is no real need for sun glasses
