Does anyone ever go to jail for not paying his credit card bills?

I have a visa, 2 mastercard, and an Amer Express and I'm wondering if I suddenly stop paying my bills, will I ever go to jail? The Philippine constitution (and perhaps in any country) states that nobody would be put in jail because of debt. I've no intention of running away from my credit card bills for I have already established years of good reputations among them but I'm just curious. Anyone?

first they ask you to pay. then they get their lawyers to send you letters to request you to pay. then they haul you to court. you still cannot pay, you are declared a bankrupt. you do not go to jail..but your life will not be pleasant after you are declared a bankrupt since all money matter will have to go throught the bankrupt office. jail? no jail. just hell for the next part of your life.

That's very sad. I would prefer jail than hell, lol! Seriously, you made me thinking that maybe, I should stop this credit card thing! I have to settle them out and then quit. I'll just retain the visa card and quit the rest.

Credit Card companies has to undergo various procedures before jailing a defaulter, which they do not normally resort to as it will spoil the bankers reputation. Before going legal there will be a counselling comprising managers of Bank. When the payment chqeue bounces, they can take action as per negotiable instruments act.

In my opinion those who use credit cards and don't intend to pay their bills are stealing, just like those who reach for the cash registers and steal the cash. Of course there are circumstances where someone has used their credit card can't pay the bill for one reason or another but they should be able to make arrangements with the bank or credit card company to pay it off. I doubt any credit card company would let you get away with not paying. In Iceland where I live, you can go to jail for certain kinds of debts but I think it's only when an employer has withheld taxes and VAT. The credit card company would probably do anything they can to get their money, otherwise no one would ever pay their bills. Those thinking about trying this... be careful, you might end up bankrupt and lose everything you own.

Stop using your credit cards for it will definitely put you heavily in debt. It's hard to control one's self in spending knowing that you don't have to worry about the payment yet.
