I have read an article that drinking water along with the solid food taken may slow the digestive process.water dilutes the digestive enzymes and so digestion becomes slow.it may cause to indigestion ,constipation, gas troubles for persons whom has got digestive problems.seems to be true...what mylotters say?

Yes, that's true. I read somewhere that we should take warm or hot drinks with our meals to aid the breakdown of fatty particles in food and digestion. Apparently, you're ok to drink cold water at other times, but it was advised to have hot with your meal. I don't have a problem with that, as opposed to when I was drinking cold drinks, I used to get gas trapped under my rib cage and it caused great discomfort. I think you'll also find that carbonated drinks cause the same problem, so a cup of black coffee or lemon tea... even warm water or lemon juice should be a great asset to you digestion if taken with or just after a meal.

it is better to take water half an hour befor meals and one hour after meal.i dont agree with cofee or tea along with foods instead vegetable soup will go for me and butter milk in day time not at night.

Each to their own. I take my three berry juice half an hour before... cold, and a hot drink, often green tea, after dessert and that works fine for me. Choice of drink is an individual thing I think. After all, one hour before won't break up fatty acids in the food will it, whereas one hour after is probably well after digestion has started.

yes, i can see this to be a sensible way of doing it. i know now why i used to suffer from some pains in my ribcage after a meal. i used to drink a glass or two of water after eating. and i used to suffer from that pain as a child until i was in college. when somebody has told me about not good to be taking water immediately after a meal, it had subsided along with the practice of the proper timing of water intake with food. it is good that this topic has been brought up for a discussion here. it gives light unto many of us who are not aware of it beforehand.

I have heard something similar about what you have wrote. It is hard to go by these rules of not drinking during a meal and waiting so long before and after a meal to be able to drink I have tried this, but in the end I just end up drinking the liquids. I guess it is a habit I have had since I learned to eat. I don't really have indigestion or constipation or gas really unless I eat something really spicy or beans.

It doesnt means that you cant drink water when you are thirsty at meal time or at the time of food.every body all over the world is following this system it cant change overnight .also people dont masticate food proprely they dont chew very well that means if you didnt take water you will feel some difficulty .chew it thouroughly.it may always necessary to cause indigestion .the digestion may slow down and for those who has got digestive problems it may make worse.

actually, it is best to take some water about thirty minutes before eating. after a meal, it is good to wait for the passage of another thirty minutes before taking a full glass. a sip or two after a meal is fine but definitely, not too plenty. this is because, as you have said, this will dilute the acids and the enzymes in our stomach which are all needed in the proper digestion of teh food that we have just ingested. i have already heard this from some old folks before i came across a scientific study on this on the context of health.

it is just a habbit .and if you mastify your food well and chew it thoroughly and drink it instead of eating it means make it in the form of water then the quantity of food will also be less also .since tylin in saliva is the digestive factor of starch it helps in the easy digestion of food also. eat your water drink your food.

Yes, Manoj, whatever you wrote is perfectly correct. we should avoid having water in between the meal. If you are prone to it, take it in small sips to avoid lot of water intake during the meal. Water should be taken before meal and after 1/2 an hour of the meal. This would keep the digestive system in proper functioning.
