It is sad that there are homeless people. There shouldn't be any with all the wealthy people we have in this country. People should be more willing to help the people that need or want a place to live. Our government should do more to help provide places for the homeless.

I so agree, In the small town where I live they are actually against haveing a homeless shelter because they fear the "type" of people it will bring. But I hate to tell them those people are just like us and if you helped them then they wouldnt be homeless.

I can only think of "fortunate" to describe ourselves.

Generally I think "there but for fortune go you or I". The US Supreme Court last June decided it was ok for the government to seize private property (it is under something called eminent domain) and give it to someone else (it used to be that they could only seize your property for public use.. like roadways) who is willing to pay more taxes than you are. Now when I look at a homeless person, I realize just how close many people are to that scenario. While some of them choose to be on the street and homeless, some do not. There is not a good way to determine which ones would rather be somewhere else, so it is difficult to know just how to help any of them.

Yeah that is a good point. I guess for me I just try and give if I can because like I said to someone else I think it is the act of giving that counts. I know God sees the act more that what they do with it because once we give it it is theirs to do what the want with it and they will be accountable for it. So I just try to give and say a little prayer that God will direct them.
