I am from India. Here we greet new people by saying "Namaste", and bowing forward while joining hands at the centre of forehead, or chest. This is the practice in the whole country.

I smile and if I am outside walking down the road and a car passes by I will smile and wave my hand.

To greet people without the use of words, I usually wave at them or give them a friendly salute. Sometimes, I also nod to greet people, or position for a high-five.
