I fully agree with the previous poster that possessiveness is not gender related. Anyone, whether male or female, could be possessive. I feel that it generally depends on the distinct characteristics or unique personalities of individuals. For instance, if a person, regardless of gender, has a great sense of ownership or possession of things that belong to him/her or persons who have a certain attachment or affinity to him/her, it is quite likely that he/she will be possessive. Though I agree with the previous poster that possessiveness is not gender related, I would have to disagree that males are more possessive or control freaks than females, since based on my personal experience, the reverse is true. Regardless of who's more possessive, though, I feel that the real question should be what are the advantages or disadvantages of being possessive.

I don't really think it is gender related, both can be. If I really had to say one or the other I would say that I have heard of more males being control freaks than women.
