Credit Card Statements

Today in the mail I got a credit card statement on my Visa card. My payment is normally due the 11th of each month. To my surprise there was a $39.00 late fee on my statement. I pulled out my previous statement and saw that I had made my last payment on the 9th, so there shouldn't have been any reason for the late fee. I called them and they said I never made the last payment. I told them YES I did and it was marked on my new statement that it was received on time. He said....oh okay I'll go ahead and take that late fee off for you. Do you check your statement carefully each month?

We absolutely need to be diligent in checking our statements, especially now during this era of online payments we may neglect to look over the statements...and I think that there are way too many "mistakes" such as you mention going on. I think, also, that the companies should not only credit your $39 back to you and ensure that your credit history is not adversely affected - but shoot, why should they get away with just saying *oops* maybe they should be charged the same $39 that they attempted to charge you!!!

Yeah wouldn't it be nice if we could charge them for their mistakes.

I check my credit card statements closely. My husband is terrible about signing up for some free trial thing and giving out a credit card number, and then forgetting to cancel. So I have to keep a close eye on our statements for that reason. We also had an issue with making a Discover card payment online, and it not going through. They called us the day after it was due (we usually pay 9 days before it's due, when my husband gets paid) and asked about it. I checked and saw that it never went through for some reason, so I paid it right then. They were VERY nice about it. They didn't even up our interest or anything like they usually do.

I check my credit card statement regularly online so that I can keep up with it throughout the month. Everyone should be checking their c.c. statements these people are only human and make mistakes to. Not to mention in case there are things on it that you didn't purchase.

Yup, I carefully check all of the statements that I get each month: credit card, bank statements, and even our cell phone and electricity bills. I pay almost all of my bills online now, and I am always a little concerned about whether they go through or not. Also, sometimes I have found odd charges on my cell phone bill, and I like to be able to check for those.

I do and I check my other bills too. Sometime I overpay on my bills on purpose so I have a little credit just incase I'm short one month. But so far I haven't had any issues on it.
