Kiwano?

Has anyone ever tried a kiwano or horned melon fruit? I bought a dragonfruit, starfruit and kiwano from the grocery store today, and everything I've read on kiwanos indicates that they leave much to be desired. I guess I wanted to see if anyone here has ever given it a try before I attempt it myself. Any hints?

Nope, all i've tried is just the usual types of melon and kiwi fruits. I have heard of them before, but not sure if i've ever seen them for sale in a UK fruit & veg shop or supermarket. Have you eaten any of them yet? Let me know what they are like if you do, they sound interesting, and i've not ehard anything about any of their flavours before.

They're from New Zealand and I'd never seen them before. I will say they're on par with Pomegranates.. a pain to eat and not really worth it. They have sort of a cucumber taste, but you have to suck the small amounts of fruit off the seeds as they are not edible, much like watermelon seeds. :)

I have never ever heard of nor seen the kiwano or dragonfruit! I have had starfruit and find it to taste wonderful! I see that you made a reply that the kiwano wasn't worth the effort, I appreciate you letting us know. If I had seen it I would have certainly bought one to try, as I love fruit! I will no better than to get one now!
