my cousin is a punk. he's into skating. he's into black, gothic attire, get-up. he got long fringe(bangs), his fingers were colored black, he got big belt buckles, and he wears chuck taylor shoes. i told him he's an emo. he said he's not; he's just a punk.
is punk and emo the same?

UGH I cant stand the term "emo" I really cant....of course I hate labels overall so its no wonder I dont care for it...My son gets called an "emo" by some of the bullies at school..he is more punk than anything though (LOL I taught him well)...I'll have to agree with recycledgoth though that it seems your cousin is a mix of a few things....Which really I see no problem with...who says one has to follow ANY style ya know....I'm a little bit of everything depending on my mood any given day when it comes to how I dress...but how I think, feel, live and see life is definately goth if it must be labeled....LOL with a little bit of hippy thrown in and a tad of punk LOL

ok. i've been trying to study his attitudes lately. he always insist that he not emo because he doesnt kiss guys like him. though he's into gothic, dark things. and rock. he loves queen. and all his things are black too. thanks for posting!

I guess I'm a little confused on the whole "kissing guys" thing...is he gay or is that a common association where you are from (that emos are gay or something)...

i dont know. most emos i know or i see from the net do that kiss-a-guy/girl-like-you. i dont know if its normal for them or something.

LOL he's probably more emo than he thinks, certainly not as goth as he tries to be and definitely not as punk as punks usually are. :-) It sound to me like he has taken elements of them all and combined them for his own unique style, cool

haha. yeah maybe. he always tell me he's not emo. this was his usual line to me:
"if i'm an emo, then how come i don't have a boyfriend? or even kiss guys?"

Ok, punk is not the same as emo, and I have to say right off the bat that not all emo's are gay. Being emo just means ur more in touch with your feelings then most people are.
