My litte kid is going through a phase where she wants nothing but fried chicken. Occasionally she'll have other things. But no veggies! I've tried begging, bribing even sneaking them into recipes...but she always figures it out. How do you get your kids to eat veggies and fruits? Are there any tips or tricks that I should know?

I don't make my kids eat anything, but I make them want to :-). I put whatever we're having on their plates, and they can choose to eat or not eat. I don't make anything different for them, and they can't have seconds of a favorite unless they've eaten most of everything on their plates. We don't always have dessert, but if we do, they don't get dessert unless they finish their meals. All of them will eat a pretty good variety of foods, including fruit and vegetables, even though they all have certain foods they just won't eat.

I'm nursing my 6th as we speak, so I've got plenty of experience. Not only do my kids eat a decent variety of foods, none of them is overweight despite the weight problems that run in both families.

When I read your post, I went, "Hmmm!" It definitely made me think. That sounds like real mom advice. I am going to try that one out. Until recently, she was drinking lots of milk too, and I had to cut some of that out. And, her appetite did improve signifigantly. Course, I'm hesitant to cut it out altogether, cause I think kids need some milk. Thanks so much for taking the time to offer a newbie some expert advice.

my little sister was like this to up until she was college... to force her to eat veggies, my mom add eggs to the veggies and fried them...

Now if I can just get my little kid to like eggs! LOL! The other day she told me she wanted a boiled egg, so I spent ten minutes in a steamy hot kitchen boiling eggs only to be informed that she did not actually like eggs. Mommy ended up eating the eggs! She is doing somewhat better this evening. I took some of everyones advice and she ended up eating hotdogs and french fries. I know that's not veggies. But, for her it's progress. Thanks again for your ideas. They are all much appreciated.

As cruel as it sounds, make them sit there until they eat it. I can see them not liking every single veggie or piece of fruit but if you let them eat one single thing then you are giving them control. It always amazes me when I babysit that parents say "he will only eat this" or "she won't eat anything green". I don't let them get away with it. They know that they are going to sit there until they eat it so they don't put up a fight. I don't make them eat gross foods or anything nasty - a peanut butter sandwich, some sliced up bananas and some Jell-O should cause a war to break out.

I can just hear the screaming fits! Mine would pitch a royal fit if I made her sit anywhere for more than five minutes if she didn't really want to. Guess every kid is different. I'm a very liberal mom, I guess. More liberal than I had thought, reading some of your posts. But they are very helpful. Thanks for your post. I'll try it out. Who knows maybe it'll be what gets through to her.
