When did you first feel like a grown up?

We're legal adults at 18, but even though I've hit that age, I don't feel like a grown up. I don't feel like I'm an adult. At what age or what do you think needs to happen or you should accomplish before you feel officially 'grown up'?

I felt like a grown up the day my parents sat me and my brothers down to tell us we were losing our home. It was when I was 16 and getting ready to apply to colleges. Suddenly, my brothers and I were out getting jobs and helping where we could. I did get to go to college thanks to my family and their devotion to me being a teacher, but it was never easy from that point onward.

Sounds like you grew up quite fast. Seems to happen a lot these days with some people.

The first time I felt like a grown up, I was about twelve years old. I was living with my aunt and her two sons. The oldest one, who was a year younger than me, came to me and asked me about the birds and the bees. I did not have a clue, so I went and told his mom what he asked me and she explained everything to him. From that point on, I felt like I was grown, because my cousin had come to me and asked me that.
