Clothes' color and skin color: problem?

Do you find it hard to match clothes color with your skin color? My husband's skin is very dark brown =) and he always wear dark color and white clothes. Once I bought him a soft orange color cloth and he almost never wear it. I told him not to afraid to wear any color as long as he's confident. But no, he'll never feel confident with his skin color. Some of my friends who has darker skin color also avoid some colors like purple, shocking pink, orange, etc. I avoid too bright color because it makes me look fat. How about you?
