this has happened for two days now. my baby wakes up (from her long and deep sleep) and then she bursts into tears. she is now 5 1/2months old. i wonder whats wrong with her. her cry is like somebody pinched her.... i can always see the tears rolling down her cheeks. could it be that she is cold? but its still summer time here in the philippines? she hungry? she would still continue crying even if i gave her bottle... can someone please tell me what's wrong? or did she dream of something like us adults.....

my nephew went through this. you should do some reasserch on "Night Terrors" ...thats what it sounds like. they'll wake up crying and do that for abou 5-10min and they'll normally do that around the same time every night. what i think happens is your child is caught between 2 stages of sleep where they're not in full REM cycle but they can't wake themselves up. most of the time when they're like this and crying they're probably still asleep in a way because they won't acknowledge you're there. another thing it might be is growing pains, where their bones start to grow faster then their bodies can keep up. sometimes that happens. its hard to watch but there's nothing you really can do about but just comfort her.

thank you very much for your post.... i looked up for Night terror on the net and have read that younger babies dream more that older babies...thank you very much... when this happens i always hug her and talk to her softly then she will eventually stop crying.

I agree, it sounds like night terrors. We're still going through it on almost a nightly basis with my daughter, who is almost one. It's normal, just scary.

try to look for something that would make her cry like she might have some stomach ache or an insect bit her like mosquitoes.try to attend to her regular never left her alone on her crib or bed.babies love to know that their mom is always by their side and not leaving her alone anytime of day.just be patient and soon the little baby you have will be a grown up someday and will be very proud of you because you took care of her when she was just a baby.

I'm guessing that your baby might have been uncomfortable when she woke up. maybe it's not that she's cold but that she's hot. Did you check if she was sweating? If she WAS hot then it could also mean that she's thirsty because those two are very related. Thanks for the response on my discussion!
