Do you lock your doors and windows at night?

I sure do! I live in a big city and there was a report on the local news that a man is getting into families homes by going through an unlocked window. With one of the break-in's, a woman was able to fight the guy off, but she had two little girls in the room nearby! I'm not saying that it's fine that he's doing committing this crime, but isn't there some common sense that you should lock windows and doors? Especially if you are in a big city?

I absolutely lock my door every night. For windows, I sometimes like to keep it open to have some fresh air in fine weather. But I've also realized the safty problem, so I choose to live in a high buiding.

I guess it would be safe if your home is up high, it would be hard to scale the walls outside! We have a one story home, so we shut the windows and lock them all up in the evenings.

I live in the suburbs of a big city. There are always severals days out of the year in late autumn or early spring when the air is so crisp and I want to sleep with my windows open. I often go to sleep thinking about how dangerous it is. I have lost the desire to do it at all since my son has been born. Even though I live in a very nice part of town, there is just so much going on in the world these days. Just recently a woman from a mom's group I belong to sent out a report that the police caught a peeping tom looking in her bathroom window and her he next door neighbors. Judging from his escape route from the police through her fenced/gated backyard without disturbing anything, the police predicted that he had been around there often. She live less than a mile from me. I lock all doors and windows.

Wow, I'd be so scared if I discovered a peeping tom! I am in living in what is considered to be the suburbs, but a few blocks away is the city!

We keep our doors locked anytime they are closed. The baby's window stays locked all the time, and so do the ones downstairs (except the one with the ac window unit). Upstairs, we have a window unit in the computer room, and during the winter that window is always locked. Our bedroom window is locked during the winter, but during the spring and fall, it's left open a lot of times. The bathroom window is usually locked. We live in base housing, so we aren't really too concerned about someone breaking in. I know it does happen, but the punishment can be so severe that it doesn't happen often. And since our base checks everyone's ID's all the time when they come on base, it's hard to sneak someone on that doesn't belong here.

When I lived in base housing, it was right outside the gates, so anyone could go there! We did have a few times where there would be random people in our yard!

We live pretty close to the center of base, and it's a pretty high security base anyway. We have cops patrolling the fences even. So I really do think we are pretty safe here. But we are getting ready to buy a house offbase, so then we won't have the extra security! It's in a really small, safe town, out in the middle of nowhere, but you never know!

I do what's neccessary to keep myself safe.I keep my doors locked of course and I even have a bar that goes under my door because I had someone that tried to get in my place. If I hadn't had door chain on it he would have gotten in.

I do lock my doors..But as far as windows are concerned sleeping with windows locked is just insane for me... it feels so suffocated..i like to keep them open .. but i dont have to worry bout anyone getting in thrugh them as i have some sort of metal protection put on them.. so no worries!!

We don't have any metal bars or anything on our windows, but if it gets stuffy inside, I turn on the air conditioning, it just kicked on right now and it feels great lol.

Yes... I always do. But the thing is, my windows STAY locked no matter when it is. And the doors stay locked all the time, accept for when I just want to look out or something, and then I will make sure no one is around to break in. Around the city I live in, there are hardly ever break ins around here... But it is better to be safe, than to be sorry.

We actually don't. We live in a small town of about 800 with virutally no crime at all. We leave both garage doors open when we go away sometimes and don't ever worry about it. There are some advantages to living in a small town.

With the way our world had become, it surely hard to trust anyone these days anymore. I always lock our door every night and everytime we leave our house. It's a regular routine for me to check all of our doors before I go to sleep to ensure that they are lock. About the windows, I let some open during the night particularly those secured with a steel bars to allowed some of the fresh air to enter in through the house.

we don't have steel bars on our home, but I'm thinking it would be a wise investment, especially to get some fresh air!

We always lock our doors and downstairs windows at night or when we are out of the house. We will sometimes leave the upstairs ones open at night, but they are 15 feet off the ground and we have a dog, so I'm pretty sure we would hear anyone trying to get in that way while we are sleeping. Nowadays, it seems to be better to be safe than sorry; even if I lived out in the country, I would still do that.

I lock the doors, but there are no locks on our windows. We rent and the landlady has already said we can't do any changes unless we intend to buy, so no window locks go up. Luckily we live in a small town, in a good neighborhood, and on the corner under a streetlight.

Well live in a very rural small community and never locked nothing ever not even at night when we went to sleep. Now though things are bad not matter where you r at people from other areas come to trusting places like this and steal and do stuff so now we have to lock up everything not safe not too.

Of course I will!especially now adays that a lot of bad influence are just around the corner,so better to be safe than caught in an unpleasnt situation.I always make it a habit to see to it taht everyhting is locked before i leave the house, i always take precautionary measure rather mess out something bad.I cant afford to loose anything from my house its all because i forgot to lock my house .for me wether im in a big or small city it doesnt make a difference because anywhere you go theres always bad guys around.

Our windows and doors are always locked. I don't open the windows at all so we don't have to worry about someone coming in if we forget to lock them. We either use the furnace or the AC unit. Our doors are locked even when we're home, usually. I've seen people robbed when they were home because someone just walked right in. Plus, if you read my post about a friend of mine just walking in whenever she is good and ready, I want to know who it is coming thru my door BEFORE they come in, not after. My husband used to laugh at me and say I was paranoid, but there is a high crime rate where we live and I'd rather be safe than sorry!

I think it will be pretty safe to leave your doors and windows open around where I live. I live on the third floor anyways, and there is nothing to climb on really to get to me. We lock our doors but will leave windows open when we sleep. We have the kind that are supposed to be impossible to open more from the outside. By the way - I live in a capital city.

Yes, we always make sure that doors and windows are locked at night every time before bedtime. We live in a fairly peaceful neighborhood with no histories of break-ins and robberies but you can never be complacent. It's a good habit to always lock up for safety and protection. Cheers! Happy Posting :)

I do lock my doors and windows not only during the night but every time when I'm inside my room. I had and awful experience when I was still young that I was traumatized. A man went in our house with a knife. He was finding something to steal. Fortunately my uncle found me and hid me somewhere safe.

Big city or not, it happens all the time. I know personally I can't fall asleep until I have seen with my own eyes that every window and door is locked. It drives my husband nuts. But I also think that no matter how many precautions we take it could still happen. We can't control the actions of others. And who really knows why one chooses to break in one house over another? It scary when we have kids in our house too. I know I was less afraid in my single days. I wasn't as cautious in locking my car door or house after I came in. But I grew up there i ws never worried. Even after hearing allthe news and reports. But once I had kids and moved I can't sit during the day without knowing the doors are locked tight. Having kids changed my fears. It is sad what the world is coming to. Is there no place safe?
