When thinking about Miss Universe, Miss America, and other pageant stuffs.... I have a question in my mind. Why should those peagents have to wear bikini? If we want to choose a beautiful and intelligent women, why do they often have to wear bikini? It is like showing women as a "product". I am not against bikini and fashion. I just don't understand what the purpose of those pageants. Do you think such pageants are primarily aimed to choose models, and artists? Then, I am wondering if there is no Mr. Universe, Mr. America, etc? What do you think?

I would like to see the pageants focus more on brains than beauty but am not guessing that will happen - looks are sooo much easier to judge. At one time there was a Mr. Universe Pageant but not sure if it just doesn't get so much publicity or if they don't do it anymore.

Oh, I didn't know that a Mr. Universe Pageant was ever introduced. Well, I think the society doesn't like men to be "handsome" (LOL). I think ... the society still considers that men should be "macho" rather than "handsome".

LOL it was years ago that I remember like 70s maybe - men were super body builder types from what I remember... Old saying "women get the looks and men the brains" - I don't agree but many still think that way.

Society acknowledges outstanding good looks the way it rewards performance in sports, the arts, geek achievements and other talents. Beauty has always been a commodity whether we like it or not. If you were very goodlooking with just an average IQ and little skills, you'd sing a different tune. What else would you have to sell? There was a Mr. Universe and I just saw a Mr. International contest on TV. Yes, pageants are one way to display fresh picks for modeling and other talent scouts.

Thanks for your response, unica_hija777. I think good looks are like a stepping stone or an open door. But the rest of it, it will finally depend on them. But I watched a channel that mentions about a beauty vs an ugly. The society still gives a huge credit for beauty.

I agree that we should not judge a woman by how they look in a bikini or what kind of figure they have. We should be judging based on their intelligence and personality. We should vote on someone who we feel would represent our country or state proud. We want someone that we can trust with doing the right things and helping educate others on doing the right things.

They tell us that it is about intelligent women to quiet down all the feminists in this world who hate good looking sexy women. If it was about finding the most intelligent woman... we would not send her to a pageant... we would send her to a quiz show. Why is it wrong for women to flaunt their attributes on a stage... but it is alright for young women to walk semi naked on the street and in bikinis on the beach. What is the difference? God made beautiful women to satisfy the voyeur in every man. It is the duty of every beautiful women to satisfy man's need for beauty by flaunting themselve in public. If we cannot have them... at least we can look at them... and be reminded what a woman should look like. And hopefully... some of those women who don't qualify for the Miss Universe title... will take notice and try a bit harder to look sexy for their man. But that the whole point. Women object to it because they don't want the challenge of having to compete with Miss Universe. That is why they are against it. Gees... that felt so good... to be able to be chauvinistic again. lol

Thanks for your honest response, Aussies2007. I really appreciate your point of view. Now, I know what it is all about. Because men always want to have a dream about getting beautiful women. By the way, I think beautiful women also want to have sexy or beautiful men, don't you think so?

well i think that showing off around these women and then selecting one woman for the title, it is absolutely a waste of time. i mean, what are modelling agencies for. i am very much against title shows.

Yes, I agree with that. If all of those peagants stuffs are aimed to find models or artists, they should say so upfront.

pidok777, Thanks for your response. But I am not talking about a religion here. By the way, I am not a muslim but I have a few friends who are muslims and I appreciate their point of view. I just don't understand the purpose of doing peagants....

I surmise that, since these pageants are primarily beauty pageants, candidates necessarily have to show that they are physically beautiful. To showcase their beautiful physique, thus, they should wear bikinis. On the other side of the coin, do you think that people would be able to properly judge how physically fit and beautiful a candidate in a beauty pageant truly is, if she's not in her bikini? As to whether such pageants are primarily held to choose models and artists, on the other hand, I feel that these are just incidental to the pageant. Since these pageants usually enjoy extensive media coverage, the likelihood of their exposure to modeling agencies and talent scouts would perhaps be greater. So, if talent scouts and modeling agencies happen to discover new talents among the candidates in these pageants by watching such, then they could likely approach such candidates and offer them modeling or acting contracts. As to Mr. Universe and Mr. America pageants and the like, I feel that there are such contests, but I feel that they do not enjoy the same media mileage as beauty contests for women, and there's no much hype about them. Just an aside, though, our country's candidate for the Ms. Universe pageant this year could easily be the next Ms. Universe, if your criteria of being intelligent and beautiful would be followed, since she's a summa c*m laude (communication arts graduate), which is quite a feat that's hard to top, and currently one of the top law students in one of the best universities in our country, and she obviously has the natural beauty to boot. My only hope is that the judges in the Ms. Universe pageant would see it the way I do.

Thanks, acmepride. I would like to see a Mr. America and Mr. Universe. I've never seen that (LOL). I'll watch it for sure. Of course, Mr. America and Mr. Universe has to be handsome, macho, intelligent and succesful.
