Have any of you taken Metformin (Glucophage) while nursing?

I take Metformin (1000mg) twice a day and nurse my 6 month old. I have been told by both her pediatrician and my OB that the Metformin is safe while nursing, but the baby seems to really suffer from GI problems when I take the Metformin as prescribed. When I reduce the amount of the Metformin to just once a day, she seems to be better. I do not take this for diabetic reasons, and cutting it in half seems to keep the symptoms (of PCOS, the reason I take it) at bay. I am just wondering if any of you have experienced the same issues or is it just coincidence?
