Well for those of us working for the companies, were you often work overtime? If so, were you paid overtime / penalty hours? I think most of us here work in the normal office hours, my job is shift job so the hours can vary from day to day. Rarely I work overtime, then if I do I'll get paid extra. So what's yours? Thanks for sharing.

During the winter season, there is a lot of overtime. We woek a mandatory 7 days a week for about 3 or 4 months. On Sundays we get double time provided we have not missed any time during the week..not even a minute. Even if we take a vacation day...we lose the double time...it is then just time and a half. Saturdays are paid time and a half if we have worked 40 hours and anything after 40 hours is time and a hald if we have had to be out. Thank goodness our slower 5 days a week is in the summer. It's easier to work the overtime when the weather isn't that great. This year has been a bit more challenging with the weather conditions..we never close...but they do pay us well and we have our summers more at ease.

I work in the public sector in administration and whilst the work is relentless, the opportunities for paid overtime are minimal. However I do usually work beyond my paid contracted hours each week, be that staying later or working through lunch or whatever. I try to keep that to a minimum however, because I believe in a work life balance.

working overtime - Sometimes I work overtime to prepare my lessons for the next day's classes and correct papers and exercise-books, but I never get paid for extra work though I work overtime. It is my own job to do a good job.
Hello jhartana. I work as a teacher. Sometimes I work overtime to prepare my lessons for the next day's classes and correct papers and exercise-books, but I never get paid for extra work though I work overtime. It is my own job to do a good job.
