Hi that's a really interesting question. I have two ADD children (aged 12 and 6) They are both thin and on the short side. Maybe it is because they have a fast metabolism and are on the go all the time that they are using up their food stores more quickly than other kids. My middle child whose is not ADD is a lot taller and although he has a reasonable appetite is also very solid in build. I would be interested to know if other ADD kids were like this too. I know my daughter is always hungry at night but that is because she is on medication that when it wears off she gets hungry. My son isn't on medication but I think they eat because they are bored or they just get that thought in their head and go with the impulse of it. Good luck. Let me know what you find out.

It could be connected to the ADHD. My boys with ADHD seem to have a higher metabolism and burn off the calories faster so they don't put on the weight as quickly. All ADHD children aren't that way though so it is really hard to tell.

Could just be a very fast metabolism! Plus if his ADHD is the particularly hyperactive kind, he may just be SO active... even when he's sitting still he's moving... that his body just sucks up all that food and turns it into energy! :)

My grandson is ADHD, and he is 10 years old. He is small and thin for his age. The fact he is on meds doesn't help because it cuts his appetite a bit. I drove mini bus for handicapped kids for 7 years, and did notice all the children that were ADHD were always smaller than the other kids.

My son is 12 and has add & adhd and he is extremely small for his age, so much they almost took him off his meds because of how small he is but luckly he has started gaining some weight and its is no long as big of an issue. But yes if your child is on medication one of the side effects is weight issues.
