Teachers should be paid according to how much their students learn. Do you agree or disagree?

I believe in you. Like what my teacher before in gradeschool taught us to sell candies and other sweets inside the classroom ahahahahah. She really seldom teach us our lessons. She isn't really that smart,i conclude.

If this rule is implemented, I am afraid, most of the teachers would not get pay or much pay and then they would all come to myLot to earn. It depends on the level to which he teaches. If it is for lower levels, then such a criterion is not fair. If the students do not take interest and do not learn, one can not penalise the teacher for that. It can be safely assumed that all the teachers are competent and qualified for the job because they are selected after being found fit. So they need to be paid the full salary that was promised. But in higher education, often it is the teacher/ professor whose guidance matters alot. There, the extent of learning should be given due consideration for rewarding the teacher. In quite a few places of higher learning, this in fact is followed.

No. There are many different types of teachers on a campus. They are not all core academic teachers, therefore their students are not tested by the state. Also, there are special education teachers whose paycheck could certainly not be measured by how much their students learn, as they might have students with severe and profound disabilities (down syndrome, austistic, etc). Some teachers teach behavior classes, where, unfortunately, handling discipline has to come first. Teachers can't control how much the students retain. It would be very unfair. What if one teacher happened to get all of the gifted students one year and the other teacher get all of the lower behavior problems. Which teacher do you think will have the higher test scores?

That's better said than done because it's difficult to quantify how much students have learned from their teachers. I am a teacher myself, and the faculty performance appraisal is used as part of faculty ranking system, which in turn is translated to their salary scales. Actually this is the way it is done, but never directly paid according to students learning. I learned also that this is done in the public school system. Of course another consideration for private school teachers' pay scheme is the income of the school. In public schools there is also a definite salary scale, depending on their ranks.

I think that you have a broad opinion about this coz you are a teacher. I just hope all teachers just do their best to teach their students coz these are their duties.

It is not possible to judge how good a teacher is depending on how much their students learn. First of all, it's difficult to tell how much the students are learning. Second of all, this doesn't take into account very smart students, or students who make no attempt to learn.

I think I disagree. Bacause every student is different. the teachers should teach students according his or her plans. If some students want to learn more ,he or she can learn more by himself or herself, the others can review what he or she has learned that day to keep up with the courses. do you think so?

I think so..if the students are not satisfied about their teachers teachings, maybe they should also refer with their own research. Not just rely on their teachers capacities.

I completely disagree with you...that teacher has to pay according to how much their student is learning... Teacher is onw who taughts about a thing ant tries to expalin in it such that students can understand it...... And students duty is to grasp what his/her teacher is saying and if there is a doubt he/she must counsult to teacher and try to get clarified.... Most of students won't concentrate in class and if though they get anydoubt they won't express it because of shy or may be of carelessness which i observed in most of my friends.... By thsi how can one say that teacher is not good and pay has to depend on studenta learn?

I disagree this discussion as different students should be of different styles so why should the teacher should be harmed for the student's misbehavior I think a teacher should always be given what they deserve to!!!

This is a very complicated question. For many years I was in favour of this and have always felt it would financially benefit myself (and no I am not bragging). However, often classrooms have a lot of children with differeing backgrounds. Those who have come from privlege, and those who have not. Those who have tend to do better in school as they have more resources. Should the teacher be rewarded for this, and the other teacher who is trying to help their student who has not eaten today cope, be punished? It is complicated and there is no easy answer. cheers,

I absolutely disagree. It goes back to the old saying 'you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink'. The simple truth is that some students don't give a crap about their education. If a child doesn't want to learn, then you can't make them. It doesn't matter how good of a teacher you are. And you also have to take into consideration the students' home life. If their parents don't care about their education, and if their basic needs aren't being met (food, safety, etc) then a child cannot learn. A teacher should only be held accountable for his or her effort in the classroom, not for whether or not their students feel like learning that day.

I believe that better teachers should make more money. But not just by looking at the student's opinion, I think that They should take statistics for each individual student's improvement throughout the year, that way the student's who don't care about school, won't be factored in.
