Hi okwusman1! Just want to share my story. When I was a little girl, my family were pushing me to join Little Miss Philippines, segment of a prestigious noon time show in the country. After all the practice and proper ramping sessions, a week before the event, I told my family that I wouldn't join the competition. Of course, it made them very disappointed. Everytime the topic is opened, they would just sigh and wished that my life would be different if I opted to join the contest. When I grew up, and I have a daughter of my own, I would support her in whatever career she wanted to take. If she's for beauty pageants, then I'll support her. If not, then I'll support her too...

cecillecarmela, thanks for that wonderful response. the winner of this year miss universe contest said that her grand mother advised her to contest before age 20 that she will win and she did contested at age 20 and won. it depends on your family background, would they support the child? is there any religious implication and inclination? actually, it open doors for lots of opportunities. encourage your daughter.

Personally, I would not like my daughter to take part in a beauty pageant because I believe that she should concentrate more on honing other things rather than the superficial beauty. But, it cannot be denied that joining Miss Universe does open a lot of doors for deserving girls. And, a lot of contestants are not just beauties but are also smart. For example, our country's rep this year is a law student who graduated summa cumlaude in her college pre-law course. The fact that she entered Bb Pilipinas, and represented the country in Miss Universe made her a household name which could open up various opportunities to her. However, if she were just a pretty face with nothing between her ears but air, she would not have a very long future even if she does win a beauty pageant.

So, whatever my feelings on the matter, I would allow my daughter to join if this is what she wants.

I don't think beauty Pageant is for irresponsible girls. I believe that some girls are meant to join this pageant because of their beauty and brains. Also, most of the pageant, they give out certain responsibilities to the girls and check out their personalities. I think this really depend on the contestant on how she really handle herself If your sister want to join any beauty pageant then I think it would be nice if you support her. Who knows, she might win!

Oh I see. Well, i know someone who joined beauty pageant already and she won here in our country. No harrassment was done or anything and she is still studying, getting excellent grades so it would still depend on the person if she really wants to join the pageant or not.

I know some of them will be responsible just that some innocent ones will fall prey to men of high profile.
