With summer right around the corner, I'm sure like myself, most of you are trying to lose weight. I was thinking we could have a little competition just for motivation to see who could lose the most weight. There wouldn't be any prizes, but we could all report to one another how we did each week and how much we lost. We could give it to Sept. 1st. That gives us three months to lose as much weight as possible. Its just a fun and nice way to encourage people and all that good stuff. Any takers???

I think that would be an excellent way to stay accountable and motivated! I´m in. I have to get rid of the weight I gained with two back-to-back pregnancies!

If this is open I'd love to join. I want to lose at least 50lbs and I need some motivation. Are we starting June 1st?

Yes, the competition will start June 1st. I will post a discussion every Friday with the results of who is in the lead for the competition. I think I'll create the discussions starting with WLC - (weight loss competition) and then the date, or something like that. Feel free to write on any of the previous discussions as I will be frequently checking them in case you have any questions or you just need some words of encouragement!!

I like that idea as well. So we don't have a million discussions getting started, how about we declare a discussion name such as "WLC - DATE." That way, everyone will be able to stick together. I'll start the first entry on Friday and call it "WLC - June 1, 2007" and everyone will be able to list their goals and their plans for losing weight. From then on, if you need to write down some of your questions or just feel like sharing a good idea, you'll be able to. I'll create a discussion for each day. Sound good??

That sounds great! I was thinking on my way home today that maybe we could also have like a daily/weekly log where we can post how we're doing on our routines and maybe ask for suggestions or something like that. Anyway, just an idea.

Can I join also? Last August I started my weight loss journey but in Feb. I kind of gave up and after losing 50 I gained back 10 of it. I have a long way to go to get to where I want to be and I don't expect to be there in 3 months but maybe I can drop at least 30. I lost my motivation along the way so this would be great.

Of course you can join! I have posted a few comments above that explain how the competition works. If you have any suggestion on how to organize it better, please feel free to share. I just wanted a way to get motivated to lose weight so thats how I thought of this idea, as for organizing it, I'm doing the best I can! :) Like I mentioned before thirty pounds might be harder if you are an older person (not saying that you are), so just be careful and don't get discouraged if you don't over do it! Be careful and good luck!

Thanks for letting me join :-) I am in the older crowd but not too old. For my age and height Weight Watchers said I should be losing 2-3 pounds per week and if I add exercise I should drop another pound or 2 each week also. To be honest I would rather lose more inches right now. I added the Gazelle as my workout about a month before I quit last time and lost about 2 inches that month. So If I can get smaller even though I am not losing pounds I would still be happy.

I need to lose 50 pounds as well but I'm not expecting to drop it all in three months and you shouldn't either. Remember to pace yourself and remember that you didn't gain those 50 pounds in 3 months so you won't be losing it that soon. Good luck!

I'm sorry, I don't expect to lose 50lbs in 3 months although it would be nice. I would be happy to lose 20lbs in that time period. I've started doing Slim Fast this morning but I hate it! Once i'm done with my drinks i'm going to follow a diet similar to Weight Watchers. I have all the material already so it shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Melissa, I also am going to start with the Weight Watchers diet again. I did this last year and lost 50 pounds in 6 months. I do a SlimFast shake in the mornings which is 3 points if you skim milk and I am allowed 35 points per day. I found a great board on Ivillage that helps with points if you need it. Good luck to you!

Okay, I think what I'll do is, I'll create a discussion every week. Since the competition will begin on Friday June 1st, I'll start a discussion every Friday after. Members can write how they did the previous week. If a member feels unmotivated and needs to write to someone on any other day than Friday, they can write on the previous discussion boards. I will be checking all the discussion boards every day and when I start the discussions on Friday, I will post who is in the lead for losing the most weight. I will also be doing this competition, and I promise to keep it honest. This is the best way I can think of to do it. If anyone has any other suggestions, feel free to let me know!!

I'm so up for the challenge. I've fallen off the losing weight wagon, and I need to get back on it pronto. I just don't know what's been wrong with me lately, and a little motivation would go a long way I suppose.

I had lost 35 pounds last year, and was losing approximately 2 pounds every week. I lost my motivation when I regained much of it after a medication change. Once things stabilized, I never got the motivation back. I need to get myself motivated again so that I can get back on track.

Don't get discouraged if you have a long way to go. Baby steps always work for me! Just try it out for a few months and I bet after you see results, you'll be motivated to lose the rest and it will begin to melt off!! Good luck! Please see above for how the competition works!! Thanks so much!

Depending on your age, thirty pounds might be a little too high for only three months, so just be careful and don't over do it!! Please look at the above response I posted for how the competition will work. If you have any suggestions, please feel free to share.
