I have a 4yr old daughter..she is my only child so far and she is VERY spoiled, she gets basically whatever she wants and I dont care if people dont think thats right. Shes not one of those bratty little kids that will cry if she doesnt get something..shes spoiled BUT in a good way! Whenever she gets a new toy..she knows she has to give away an old toy to kids who are less fortunate than her and she is happy to do that.

My daughter is an only child as well and to be honest we havent really bought her alot of stuff as everyone else seems to buy it for her, or I am also lucky because all of her cousins bar 1 are female so we get alot of hand me down stuff which I really dont mind as it is all top quality stuff and it saves me having to buy it! I only want one child but I really dont want her to be spoilt rotten as my daughters male cousin is spoilt rotten and I really cant stand him

I never had a child but someone I use to work with had a spoiled child and she had a really good idea on dealing with her daughter's toys. She started by taking 30% of her daughter's toys (mostly the ones she stopped playing with)and putting them away. Then on regular intervals, she would take a second 30% away and give the first 30% back to her. The daughter enjoyed them as if they were new toys. It sounded like a good idea to me.

No. I don't buy them stuff that they want. Just buy if it is strongly needed or he/she will be spoiled.

i buy my kids things too. maybe because they have different needs and likes, coz i have a boy and a girl. my eldest daughter is so giving to the point that she let other kids enjoys her toys more than her. they're very appreciative of their things maybe that's why their grandmother likes to buy little things, even expensive things or toys for them.

even if shes the only child, according to child specialist,it is not good to give your child things that she wants.you must consider if it is a need.and things given should be reasonable say its her birthday, christmas,a reward for a good things done.

I try not to buy them too many things, but it is hard for me sometimes. When I am out shopping for clothes for them, I tend to buy a few extra things that we could live without, but I want to get them and we will use them Today I bought a singing toothbrush for my 8 year old. It sings Hillary Duff when you apply slight pressure to your teeth. The darn thing was $9 and a regular toothbrush is only $2, but I am hoping that extra $7 will make her brush her teeth longer, and better.

No, I only buy when it is a need. But, my spouse will buy them if they asked for it. Luckily, they are pretty sweet, understand that dad is the only one working to support the family. Like your daughter, she is lovely too as she know how to take care of other kids though she is the only child.

I have two girls that I compulsively shop for. I can't help myself. Most of us as parents want to give our kids everything. I think its fine to give your child things as long as you teach them how to appreciate it.
