If a building has been built then WHY DO WE CALL IT A BUILDING?

Oh, lol. My little 4 year old cousin asked me this strange question and I didn't even get what to say. I told him go play and when you will get older, you'll get to know. Now, I'm here to ask you, when a building has been built then why do we call it a building? *Ding* *Ding* *DIng* Ain't that much a difficult question, but give me a valid reason for your answer. :D

Well, if everyone called buildings "builts" when they were done, it would sound strange, now wouldn't it? For example, you're giving directions to your friend on how to get to a certain street: "Take a left turn at the big built with the flagpole." It just sounds weird.
