for people who like beauty pageants: what makes the whole thing fun to watch?

i have nothing against beauty pageants. but i have friends who are obsessed over it. as for me, if i was given to choice between watching a beauty pageant and watching a Steven King movie, i'd watch the movie. what makes people wanna watch beauty pageants? is it the contestants?or do some people like to watch it because they're waiting for someone to trip, fall, or stutter during the interview portion? is this true for some?

I like the evening gown competition where I get to see such lovely gown creations.
But I really look forward to the question and answer portion. I'm really curious if such beauty can come up with witty answers.

for me the fun thing to watch is the interview portion and in gowns
