Are you trying to lose 100 pounds or more? Want to talk about it, and get encouragement and support? Then let's talk here! It's tough, but if we work on this together and encourage each other, I believe it can be done! :-)

I hope you don't mind me butting in. :) It's not impossible, you can do it! When losing over 100 pounds it's important to educate yourself, find people to support you, and have a written goal plan. The written goal plan is one people often leave out. Writing out goals step by step including all the details can really make a difference. Don't forget to celebrate all your successes. Try not to be too hard on yourself if you don't eat perfectly or skip an exercise session. But do give yourself credit for all the hard work you do. Sarah Brown www.sarahpersonaltraining.com

Thanks a lot for the advice and encouragement! I am battling frequent bouts of excruciating pinched-nerve pain and back pain while trying to get in shape and lose 130 pounds. The reason why I do not have a written goal, although I highly recommend one for other people, is because my pain levels are so fluctuating, it is impossible for me to stick to any specific goal like that. Sometimes the pain is so severe that I simply cannot walk, exercise in other ways, or whatever. I am taking a lot of herbal and homeopathic supplements and remedies for the pain, migraines, and other problems, and I swear it is working. And, I do the best I can. As they say, two steps forward one step back. However, I just got done taking 1 3/4 step back, and now am trying to get back into my weight-loss and fitness routines. And, I keep bugging my poor chiropractor. Any advice for me in all this?

Well, here I am, icing my lumbar (lower back), taking my many herbal and homeopathic pills, capsules, and powders, eating breakfast and drinking my morning coffee, and getting ready to walk from my place to downtown which is about 4 miles, weather permitting. It is supposed to rain again soon. I just got done getting into yet another argument with my mother on the phone about my weight. (sigh) She seems to think that it is my weight that is causing my back problems in the first place. I don't know. (another sigh) I am very sick of so many negative comments, fights, and arguments about my weight. I am going to get out there and do LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of walking, serious overkill on walking, and will carry a paper with me that will read: I am protesting all the negative remarks that people keep making to me about my weight. If you don't want me to start walking 100 miles a day, then shut up. I am doing the best I can.

Hi I am wanting to lose about 80 does that count. One of my friends here on mylot creematee and a few others are doing this support group also. I think it is great that we can help each other with our dieting and things. We weigh every Monday Morning and report how much we lost or gained. It is so great to have someone helping out. If you would like to join us that would be great. Creematee posts the discussion every monday morning of course I get my through email alert but you can just go under her avatar and find it.

I really am trying to keep this discussion to those needing to lose 100 pounds or more originally, no matter how much they have already lost. I seldom weigh myself, however. I go by whatever the tape measure says instead. So, really, it would not work well with me to be in a discussion that revolves around pounds. The reason why I keep this discussion at 100 pounds is because of the length of time and amount of effort it takes to keep at weight loss endeavors for that long. And, also, I have found that once you get above a size 18, it is often VERY hard to find decent, affordable clothes. Only those who have gone beyond that size can grasp how tough that is. (Clothes shopping for me, especially for shorts, skirts, and pants, can literally take hours of trying things on before I find even one thing that fits right!) In this disussion, I hope to get people to focus on the tape measurements (around the waist) primarily, and look at the scale as not quite as important. In my opinion, the scale can give a very incomplete or mixed message, as one can be gaining weight because of gaining muscle, but still be losing inches around the waist, as muscle is denser than fat.

I'm not saying to throw the scale out. I just am saying that, at least to me anyway, it's not as important as the tape measure. I just use the scale as a rough guide from time to time.

Well, I can see your point as I am weight training and know that muscle weighs more than fat. I don't usually pull out the tape measurer much I just can see how much I am losing by the way my clothes are fitting better. And yes I know how it is to be above an 18 I am a few over that right now and the only place I usually find clothes that I like is lane bryant.

Count me in! This over weight problem I have depresses me and causes me to stay at home. I need to lose about 110 lbs from the last time I weighed at the Dr.s office 2 months ago. I don't buy clothes, if I do it is big mens t-shirts and sweats because I don't care for womens they seem to not fit right. I know my thyroid is ok I had it checked out. I have tried practically every diet pill, patch, powder, etc...The only thing that worked for me was after my 2nd baby (I have 4 kids now) I went to the Dr. and he put me on phentermine and 1500/day cal. diet. I bought slim fast to help with my weight loss. I lost 30 lbs. in 3 months, but the Dr. wouldn't allow me to be on phentermine any longer then 3 mths. At that time if he would have given me another 3 mths then I would not be where I am today as I was only about 60 lbs over weight at that time. If you or anyone has some advice for me I would be happy to listen to it. I need something to speed up my metabolism because I have none! I have very low if any at all self esteem. I have put alot of responsibilities on my hubby because I don't want to leave the house and I would like to be able to relieve him sometime in the near future and do errands myself. Help! ;)

Thanks for joining this discussion! You have definitely come to the right place! I am 130 pounds overweight, but I force myself to get out there and walk, run errands, etc. It's embarrassing, though, as I get so many comments about my weight problem. And, by the way, I am transitioning into organic-veganism, and am waiting to see what kind of effect that will have on my weight. I don't know how better to say this, but it is sooooo important that you get on a healthy diet, get active, and stay active! I just have had to learn to blow off other people's rudeness, and at times know when to talk to the rude person's supervisor or manager. ((((hugs))))
