Blocking Some Websites

I hear of more and more workplaces and schools that are blocking websites. Some of these I can perhaps understand why others I really don't see the need for them to be blocked. I actually feel that there should be no blocking of websites (legal ones anyway) and rather better education is what is needed. What are your thoughts on this matter?

Blocking some adult websites at school is understandable. The content of these web sites is just not approriate for children. At work, some employers block chatting services like MSN. People at work are supposed to work and not to chat with friends and family all day long at the expense of their employer. On the other hand, I don't think that there are any effective ways of blocking web sites. There are thousands of "undesirable" web sites on the internet.

I can sort of understand them blocking websites. At work you are supposed to be working and at school you are to learn. So, it makes sense that they would only allow people access to the sites that pertain to what they are doing.
