im working as secretary to SVP/ general manager of our company. i've been working for him for 10 months now. i have tried to be professional as i can even if he reprimands me for no reason. sometimes he insists on somethng that is wrong and when he finds out that what i am saying is right, he just says ok never asked for an apology. now i have resigned because in 10 months we have not been close, there was never a perosnal touch. when i handed him my resignation letter, he just took a deep breath and said, "fine with me" and he has been irritable since then. i only have 3 days left and its goodbye.do you think he hates me? what have i done? he's only aloof to me. i can count the times he cracked a joke on me, i can count the times he smiled at me.

Unfortunately with work there isn't always personal issues. Some people are so caught up with what they are doing and don't necessarily see their underlings as people who matter so they have little to do with them and that is par for the course - you're not on his level, why should he be your friend? What he sees is someone who is employed to do a job that involves assisting him as needed, not someone to share jokes with. Someone senior to you probably won't apologise to you for similar reasons, they are senior to you and don't have to (at least in their opinion). Since he has been irritable since that point I would guess that he doesn't hate you and probably even thinks that you have done a good job, and now he will have to get someone new to do that job. Since you're unhappy then leaving was probably a good idea, as your only other option would have been to talk with him about it. Having a stressed secretary would not be helpful to him and he probably wasn't even aware that was the case.

thank you very much.i think you're right on how he sees me here and about not apologizing. i would love to talk but in ten months i don't feel comfortable doing so, probably because i expected that at least he will also reach out to me, not only I reaching out to him, or somehow try to put himself in her secreatry's shoes. but then again, he's the boss and he shouldn't but of course it's hard for me to accept this because I have witnessed the relationships of secreatries with their general managers from other branches. do you think he really thinks i've done a good job?he does not even comment on the things I do, just my mistakes though. it's pretty tough but i still try to compose myself until my last day with him.
